fine example of IMDb review bots...

can't say I expected a nearly 20 year old movie that was already showered with accolades by real people to get the 'review bot' treatment, but I was just scouring the IMDb reviews for HOT FUZZ (2007).

there are a whole bunch of consecutive reviews published on June 21st this year, which are all roughly equal length, they all seem to start off like they're somehow already halfway through the review, and all basically look like they were written by AI.

lexus-33
lucyheartfelia-22

plus a few more similar...

clicking on their profiles reveals they have all basically reviewed the same bunch of other movies, including THE DRIVER, THE DOG STARS, THE NIGHT EATS THE WORLD etc etc

wouldn't it be very easy for IMDb to stop this happening?

also like I said a movie like HOT FUZZ does not even need the 'review-maxxing' treatment, so why are they there?

AI isn't exactly under control of its 'owners'. It's entirely possible this is a rogue thing, or that if not directed at a specific target they just randomly review movies? Anyway, I am just guessing here.

how long till we have a movie that's entirely generated by AI with no human prompting, is then uploaded to streaming services by AI, and is then listed on IMDb by AI, and gets a bunch of AI reviews submitted for it?

Maybe a fan-based AI? It's not that hard to build one. or maybe it's a test run for a later campaign, work out the bugs on older movies no one pays attention to, making sure you can fool IMDb's defenses, before deploying later to boost a new movie?
