a new word I learnt today. Interquel. it sounds a bit silly.

it means a sequel which is set in between 2 previous sequels (or between the original and the first sequel.)

found this out through reading JEEPERS CREEPERS 3's wiki page... apparently that one is set in between parts 1 and 2.

(yes I'm aware the director of those movies is allegedly a piece of crud, take that as read, not relevant to this thread)

can't think of any other examples... seems to be more of a graphic novel / video game thing from what I'm reading

any other movies fit the 'Interquel' definition?

HappyGilmore

Saw X

Came out in 2023. Technically the 10th film in the series, it actually takes place between Saw 1 and Saw 2. Like, it's after the events of 1, but prior to 2. Something like that.

And, Saw 2 & 3...technically both sequels in the franchise, but I believe both are happening concurrently at the same time, but they're separate films in the series. If that makes sense.
"The path to Heaven runs through miles of clouded Hell.

I love lamp.

HOWLING 4 THE ORIGINAL NIGHTMARE is cheesy but not too bad. It's also more faithful to the original book so there's that.
We shall meet in the place where there is no darkness.

Trevor might know better, but - I don't think the events of any HOWLING movie are actually related to the events of any other HOWLING movie...?

I'm pretty sure Part 7 has flashbacks to Part 5, and now I think about it I seem to remember Part 4 actually having flashbacks to all the previous 3?.... may be wrong. need a HOWLING marathon binge to refresh the memory, errrr... look forward to that

I included Howling 4 as critics say it is a faithful adaptation of the original Gary Bradner novel. Not sure about that as I couldn't wait for the film to end 😏😉

It's possible that PART 4 has brief flashbacks to the first 3, but none of the same actors or characters from the first three appear in 4. If the story has any relation to the previous films, it's purely contextual/in the dialogue. Granted I saw it 35-ish years ago but that was my take at the time.......

I meant that 4 is a faithful adaptation of the original novel.

Ah, well that is more true. I don't think a faithful adaptation constitutes an "interquel", however. "Interquels" seem a lot easier to locate within single films (like PULP FICTION) or w/in episodic serials... in series of films... tough... I've been stumped.

yeah not surprised I'd never heard the word before, seems it's practically a redundant term. but I thought I'd throw it out there

can't even think of good potential ideas for interquels

Must be a new, made up name. It's basically a timeline thing. Apparently, The Conjuring Universe is full of "Interquels".

As for The Howling sequels, there doesn't seem much connection beginning with part 3, even though part 3 is based on the book Howling III.

All sequels after part 2 are more or less stand alone movies. Aussie actor Clive Turner tried to tie part 4, 5, 6 into part 7 or something like that, according to wiki.

Is it October yet?
