Songs As Movies?

Anyone ever hear a song and think the basic 'plot' of the song would make a good movie?

The two that usually come to mind for me are:

"Take The Money And Run"  - Steve Miller: young criminal couple rob a bank and are persued cross country by a cop

"Metropolis Part II" - Dream Theater:  I think this would make a great supernatural thriller.  The whole cd practically comes across as a sound track anyway.

"The Body Electric" - Rush: Decent sci-fi robot flick

Actually Sean "I worship John Cassavettes" Penn's movie The Indian Runner  (at  least I think that was the title) was based on the Bruce Springsteen song Highway Patrolman from the Nebraska album.  Good artsy fartsy movie, faithful to the song, and a real downer.

Gosh, remember when the Internet was supposed to be a wonderful magical place where intelligent, articulate people shared information? Neighborhood went to hell real fast... - Anarquistador

**agrees with the entire Metropolis Pt. II - Scenes From A Memory mention**

I can think of a ton of songs that would make excellent movies:
"Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts" by Bob Dylan would make a killer heist movie. I have an MP3 of it if anybody wants it.

"The Eternal Circle" by Dylan would be another good one.

"Mexico" by Beck... it's a hilarious story about robbing McDonalds and running off to Mexico... I wish I had this one on CD.

Any song or the whole album of "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust" by David Bowie.

"I left My Wallet in El Segundo" by Tribe Called Quest. It would be a short and pointless film, but it would be funny.

"Ms. Fat Booty" by Mos Def

"Me and Bobby McGee" by Janis Joplin

"Delia" by Johnny Cash

If anybody has never heard one or more of these songs, shoot me an e-mail at mrlucky1979@yahoo.com and I can shoot you an MP3.

'Liza and Louise' by NOFX? Maybe not.

I know a few good songs made about films but none that have been turned into films.

'Gattaca' by Imbalance (great UK hardcore punk band) and
'Verbal Kint' by Link 80 (US ska-hardcore band) both spring to mind.

"Godzilla" by Blue Oyster Cult

How about a movie based on "Children Of The Sun" by Bill Thorpe?

I must say that I was sorely disappointed by the 80's boarding school taken hostage flick "Toy Soldiers".  It had little or nothing to do with children's choirs *or* cheezy pop music.

Martika must be spinning in her grave.

Terry Gilliam has mentioned that Brazil is only called Brazil because he liked the song (which, as a result, has become movie trailer shorthand for "quirky").

On the subject of songs made about movies, I remember reading that some band recorded a song where the lyrics were just the narration from Beast of Yucca Flats. Anyone know the name of the song or the band?

oh this is such a good topic. Definitely Dream Theater--Metropolis Pt 2

i can think of a couple right off hand....

Savatage---The Wake of Magellan
Trans-Siberian Orchestra---Beethoven's Last Night

Now if those three albums don't make killer movies.

""I always try to save the best for last, but in my opinion you need to jump NOW!!!!""

A couple of classic bad movies were "adapted" from songs..."You Light Up My Life" and "If Ever I See You Again."  [which I guess was a sort-of sequel to the former.]

While I do agree with all 3 Hollywood would mess up The Wake of Magellan. It is a complacated story with a lot going on in it. Better albums from Savatage that would be easier to do would be Streets, and Dead Winter Dead.
If God is watching us, the least we can do is be
entertaining.

Think anyone in Hollywood would have the guts to do a movie of Frank Zappa's "Joe's Garage" rock opera album?

Babydoll

" Martika must be spinning in her grave."

When did she died?  I think "Toy Soldiers" would make a good movie.

"Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran

 "Vacation" by The Go-Go's

"My Boyfriend's Back " by The Angels

Flangepart

"Lily,Rosemary and the Jack of Heatrs" by Dylan is a natural.
indeed. Also, "The friends of Mr. Cihro" by Vangelis and Jon Anderson. Uses Noir style diologue as part of the lyrics.

"Aggressivlly eccentric, and proud of it!"

Brock

Babydoll, I was kidding.  The "Toy Soldiers" movie is in no way related to the song.

And they already made "My Boyfriend's Back" into a crappy early 90's comedy about a zombie boyfriend...
