Hey peoples! Fangoria #216 features an incredible 7 1/2 page article that is the first part of a TWO part series on William Girdler.

The article was written by yours truly and co-penned by Al Adamson biographer David Konow. It's teeming with new interviews, photos, and cool stuff.

Part One officially hits the stands on Tuesday, but I found a copy at Suncoast tonight in Philly. So it's out and about. "Hannibal" is on the cover. Part Two comes out in October.

Can you believe it? Fifteen full-color Fango pages for Girdler within the span of two months! Fantastic!!

Anyway, I hope Andrew doesn't mind me pitching the piece here. I just think it's cool that Fangoria is doing it at all, let alone at this scale. The article alone is worth the cover price -- it's first-rate, super-slick, and super LONG.

So grab a Fangoria with Hannibal on the cover in September and spend some quiet time getting to know William Girdler ... without having to stare at a computer monitor for a change.

Oh yeah, and there's some stuff about Bruce Campbell and The Ring in Fango, too, but like, who cares, right? Girdler Girdler Girdler Girdler Girdler ....

                              About Time!!!!
Fango needs to get down and locate every 70s and 80s genre filmmaker(Ken Weiderhorn,Joseph Zito,Jeff Lieberman)and do both a feature on,and an interview with them, since now is the ripe time for them to do so,and would strongly strengthen their magazine even more if they would do such feature articles of this type.

I'd subscribe to Fango if I couldn't already get the info contained within online and if it wasn't so expensive (it costs as much for a year and a half of a monthly magazine as a year of Fango,  a bi-monthly).

While Fangoria don't butter my toast, i'm glad you got some professional publication!
....Keep up the good work, Girl.(Us old farts can say stuff like that to you young whippersnappers)!

Let me repeat: what's worth seeing in this mag is NOT online, dig? I'm not telling anyone to buy this issue of Fango for the news or other articles, however worthy they might be. And Fango is not bi-monthly. Sheesh -- didn't everyone read Starlog or Fango for at least a year growing up? It's 10 months -- they skip two months a year for holidays.

Truth be told (and I've been 100% honest about this from the start), I stopped reading Fango and Starlog around 1994, though I read both religiously for about eight years. I was pretty shocked to see the cover price on Fangoria last winter.

That's why I can say with a fair degree of certainty that THIS one article is meaty enough to give you your dollar's worth. The Girdler piece is worth the cover price. Truthfully, the rest of the mag is pretty good, too (yeah, even Bruce). I'm under the impression that the mag is looking to win back some "old-school" readers like myself.

But you don't have to get a subscription. Just grab issues #216 and #217 from your newwstand. Or if you cannot break the bank visit William Girdler.com and try to imagine all of the content that was saved exclusively for the Fangoria article that you won't be able to see without the issues in hand.

Abby,

Have a problem?  Not at all.  I picked up the Fangoria while in New York and it is a very good read.  I was dashed when it ran out with a "to be continued" at the back of the magazine.  Have not bought a Fangoria in years, but this was well worth it.

Thanks man. The mag is fully out and about now (as is the Asylum of Satan DVD). I'm a lot prouder of the Fangoria pieces at them moment.

Fangoria #217 is now on newsstands ... replete with part 2 of the sprawling Girdler article. This section looks at his later films like Grizzly, Day of the Animals, and The Manitou (the last two are reviewed here at Badmovies.org, of course).

As with Part one, the article is dripping with new material you will NOT see on my website, so it's well worth the cover price.

As an added bonus, Fangoria quietly dedicated the entire issue to the memory of William Girdler. I thought that was rather sweet.

So by all means: do grab a copy. Who knows when another in-depth, full-color Girdler article like this will be widely available? I really think it's a worthwhile read and I urge y'all to give it a shot.
