I'm looking for a show, I think, that used to air on the Sci-Fi Channel way back in the day. It always started out with this weird alien/monster family - all sitting in front of the television.

That would be Monsters, which was very similar to Tales from the Darkside.

                   That is "monsters" all right,which enjoyed a syndicated run in the late 80s and early 90s,before those useless informercials took over late night.
