I'm really bored and so to pass time (and relieve stress from an upcoming midterm)  I decided to make this thread.  I will name five movies that have been remade and all you have to do is say whether you like the original or the remake more.  You can consider it a science experiment if you so choose.

Night of The Living Dead

Little Shop of Horrors

Planet of the Apes

The Thing

Ringu

Have fun

Well that was fun...in a f****in' sick, terrible, not at all fun kinda way.

jmc

1. Original.
2. Remake.
3. Only saw original.
4. Original.
5. Remake.

Brother Ragnarok

I know all about that midterm stress, man.  There right now.

1.  Original
2.  Remake since I never saw the original
3.  Original
4.  Remake
5.  Original

Brother R

There are only two important things in life - monsters and hot chicks.
    - Rob Zombie
Rape is just cause for murdering.
    - Strapping Young Lad

Pete B6K

NotLD - Original definitely.
LSoH - Only know the Rick Moranis one.
Planet of the Apes - So so so blatantly the original.
The Thing - Only seen Kurt Russell version, but it's a classic.
Ringu - Original by far

Pete

The Burgomaster

I vote for the original on all of them (except for RINGU - I haven't seen either version yet).

Offthewall

NOTLD - Orginal although the remake is pretty good by remake standards
LSOH - The Remake
POTA - Orginal, remake was crap
Thing - remake (haven't seen orginal)
Ringu - never seen either

Holy crap!  What kinda people are you to not have seen the Howard Hawks classic Thing???--snazzy dialogue, Jim Arness as the monstrous walking carrot (pre-Gunsmoke, of course).  Better look fer this one boys--also look fer the original LSoH, Young Jack Nicholson in the dentis chair (I've said this before somewhere) is worth the price of a DVD or tape.

NotLD--original
LSoH--remake is livlier, but Roger Corman's original is a quirky enough cult classic
PotA--gimme break
The Thing--Original vs. remake--both have their merits
Ringu--haven't seen(holy crap, what kinda guy am I??)

Some people like cupcakes better--I for one care less for them

Damien01

Roller Ball (the remake) what the hell are they thinking, didnt they see the original film? or even read the book???

raj

want to defend the remake of Planet of the Apes.
Hello, anyone out there?

BTW, wasn't Casablanca actually a remake?  I thought I read that somewhere, long, long ago.

The Burgomaster

As I mentioned in a different string, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS are now available in 3-D versions (is nothing sacred anymore???)

Funny thing is I got this topic intop my head after reading your topic aout 3D versions of NOTLD and LSoH.  So in a way this is yet another "Spin off of a Burgomaster thread"  (can't you just see that in a movie "based on a thread by The Burgomaster")

And I might as well say my piece about which ones I like.

NOTLD-  I like the original (except the end)  but the remake was also awesome.  (Tony Todd)

LSoH-  Remake if only for Steve Martin's song and the fact that they reenacted it on Head of the Class (the deciding factor)

PoTA- Original because I haven't wanted to see the remake since my roomate ruined the ending for me.

Thing-  Remake because that's the only one I've seen.

Ringu-  Hard choice.  I like horses but I also like psychics.  But Sadako's eye was creepier than Samara's.  Yet the tape from the remake had a lot more substance and disturbing visuals.

Well that was fun...in a f****in' sick, terrible, not at all fun kinda way.

NOTLD- in a close one I will choose the remake, the people werent  as smart as the ones in the original

LSOH- only seen Rick Moranis version, but the voice dubbed songs gave me a headache

POTA - Original my god

Thing - Havent seen either.,..... its on my list though

Ringu- Remake is far superior if only because of Naomi Watts and the better Special effects.

"Sir, if you were my husband, I would poison your drink."

--Lady Astor to Winston Churchill

"Madam, if you were my wife, I would drink it."

--His reply

Skaboi

1. Original
2. Remake
3. Neither, they are both horrible.
4. Remake
5. Original

Squishy

Original on all five counts.

Like many, for me "The Thing" is a close call. Not a real big fan of either, but they both have their terrific moments. Ditto "Apes," but in this case, I utterly abhor the remake, and not just because of the ending.

My favorite version of "Little Shop" is actually the broadway musical, with its original, no-test-audience ending. But the original is gold.

The "NOTLD" remake was good, but not nearly as effective as the original.

Side note: Let's not forget giant monsters! "King Kong," "Godzilla," and "Yongary" have suffered inferior remakes, but if "Gamera: Guardian of the Universe" could be considered a remake, that's definitely a lonely score in the "remake" column.

For raj: "Casablanca" wasn't a remake, but was itself remade--well, rehashed, anyway--in 1980 as "Caboblanco"...with Charles Bronson. It was also the basis for two short-lived TV series of the same name!

Another title for consideration: "Cat People."

Squishy

(Wakes up, looks at post) Oh God, did I just write that "Yongary" suffered an inferior remake? Well, I suppose it's true in that "Reptilian" was less entertaining, what with the total lack of death-by-chemical-induced-rectal-bleeding.
