Brother Ragnarok

You may think the title of this post is in bad taste (and so it is) considering the subject, but being able to face the most horrible crap in life with a sense of humor is the only way any of us get through.
Late last night a friend of mine named Katie (the Katie who wrote that Coco Roos comic with me for those who've seen it) got a phone call.  Her boyfriend had hung himself.  He did it while he was on the phone with her.  She said he just went quiet and she thought the phone was dead until the sheriff called her.  I think the world of her and I can't help but hate the guy because of what a selfish, immature prick he was to do this.  He couldn't have not known how badly this would hurt her.
I realize that with the exception of ASHTHECAT, who is her cousin, this doesn't have any personal significance to any of you, but please give her a thought or a prayer or whatever's your thing.

Thanks,
Bryan

No s**t!

Un-f**king-believable!

I never met her boyfriend....hell I didn't even know she had one.

Hopefully that doesn't scar her for life or make her have problems with any future relationships.

The last thing she needs is fearing that every man in her life is gonna kill himself.

It's a good bet that she'll remember this for the rest of her life.

You know, this whole thing could almost play out as a scene in a b-movie if done right.

Bummer.

That's a mindf*ck of the highest order.  Though it can give her a great snotty diss for her when she recovers, which might not take as long as you think.  Expect a lot of anger.

"So, what happened to your last boyfriend?"
"We broke up."  She could say.  "He was too hung up on himself."

That, or he died in a freak phone line tie up.

Please, don´t make fun of the poor boy´s death, you irrespetous a***ole.

Very sad Bryan and you are entirely correct that doing it like this was a very selfish act.  I hope she gets over it quickly and moves on to better pastures.

Interesting thing:  for most anyone who believes in religion, grief is a selfish emotion too.  We believe that our friends or family have gone to a better place, yet are sad because they are no longer here to make our world better.

death is always a sad thing but what an a***ole to do that to her. I hope she gets over it and can forget what this pathetic creature did to himself and to her. Mind f**k exactly.

Taking your life is never the answer. That poor thing was too far away from God.

Lay off, Johnny.  You're getting a little out of hand here.  I love Katie, she's a great friend and I have nothing but respect for her, but what Chad said was really funny.  It sounds exactly like something I would say.  You did read the subject line I gave this thread, didn't you?

Yeck!  My boyfriend, well ex-boyfriend, also hanged himself a year ago exactly from Monday.  I wasn't on the phone with him at the time but it was still pretty hard to take.  It was no surprise though, he had been going around for months talking about it and every meeting was probably "the last" and every goodbye was THE goodbye and after a while I just didn't take him seriously anymore.  Of course everytime I saw him he had to bring up that if things had worked out between us it would have been different and there was "probably" nothing I could do now, so I couldn't help but feel at least a little bit responsible.  I don't know exactly how she feels but I can kind of relate, I was very close to him when he died.
If you're going to commit suicide you should keep it a selfish act and don't drag anybody that actually cares about your life into it.

I hope she feels better soon!  I had a lot of friends that hated him and made horrible jokes about it and I'm kind of ashamed to admit it made it a lot easier to deal with!

love colleen

Obviously life wasnt serious to him, so why should it be serious to us? Some suicides make an iota of sense, this one made none.

I'm sorry to hear about all this, and hope everyone involved can manage their feelings in appropriate ways.  There is never any shame in going to talk to a professional about your problems, there are some awesome crisis workers out there. It's also nice to have someone to vent to, and let your feelings out.  Too bad the guy who killed himself couldn't realize these things.   It's always very sad for someone to take their own life, especially when they drag someone else into like that.
