I finally managed to get my hands on a copy of this one.

Well, I have this heavy emotionless sick feeling in my gut.

It was a truly disturbing film.

Other than the Blair Witch similarities, there really is no other film like it that I've ever seen.

The animal killings weren't nearly as revolting as all the reviews make them out to be.  After all, that's what needs to be done if you need food to survive but in the film it seems like they were having the time of their lives slaughtering that turtle.(slimy turtle guts spilling out was kinda gross...made me cringe a little)

The music was very fitting as well.
Creepy.
I'm gonna have that drum beat with the electronic "DYOU DYOU DYOU" sound in my head now. (if you've seen it then you know what sound I'm referring to)

I just can't understand why these supposedly respectable filmmakers would snap then kill, rape & burn villages full of innocent people.

They drop villagers with their shotguns as if they were dogs to be put down.

The only reason I can think of:
Because they could.
To show their dominance.

The film does have a very poignant message in showing that arrow shaped symbol on the back of one cannibal's neck.......then seeing the same symbol on the back of a delivery truck as a business insignia driving down the road in the middle of New York traffic for the final shot of the movie.

I found the official website for the film.

If any of you have seen it also, what did you think of it?

The Burgomaster

I guess I need to dig out my old VHS copy of this (if I can find it . . . I sadly had to turn my back on my VHS collection when DVDs came out . . . where are you, my old friends?)

I never liked this movie as much as a lot of other people seem to like it. Maybe I need to see it again. (Although, I've seen it at least 3 times already).

I prefer CANNIBAL FEROX (aka MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY), which I have on DVD.

Is anyone else with me on this one?????

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

What is the main difference between Cannibal Holocaust & Cannibal Ferox?(Make Them Die Slowly)

Dunners

Why would I want to see a move where they kill real animals?  f**king butchers(the film makers not you guys)

save the world, kill a politician or two.

Johnny Blister

I wonder is this movie got Mystery Science Theatre 3000-ed.

Ash

I would venture to guess that it's not on MST3K.

They usually show films that you can crack jokes at.

There's nothing funny whatsoever about Cannibal Holocaust.

Johnny Blister

Belive me,Mike and the bots can make ANYTHING funny.

Steve B

Well...that is true...but even they could not make Manos funny

Cannibal Holocaust is one of...well, I can't exactly say "favorite" movies, but it's one that has always been with me since I first saw it nearly seven years ago.  I read an interesting factoid about it in the recent SLEAZOID EXPRESS book..I'm paraphrasing, but Robert Kernan, the guy who plays the professor, was disgusted by the director's insistance on killing the animals to the point where he was literally praying for the movie to fail.  Keep in mind that Kernan up to this point had been doing porno films.   It's pretty bad when a porno actor is driven back to the religion of his youth.

I'd say the big difference between Cannibal Holocaust and Cannibal Ferox is that the latter is more traditional--you wonder if the characters will get away from the cannibals and hope in most cases that they will.  Cannibal Holocaust is more like a documentary--early on you already know what's going to happen, it's just a question of how bad it's going to be--and none of the characters are sympathetic, except maybe the cannibals.   I think Cannibal Holocaust is by far the better film--though there are lots of gross-out scenes the movie doesn't seem to revolve around them quite as much as Cannibal Ferox.  Cannibal Ferox just doesn't seem to have the depressing wallop that Cannibal Holocaust has.  However, I'd say it's probably my second favorite of the many cannibal flicks.   It probably suffers more for coming out later--it's pretty obvious in its attempt to jump on the bandwagon [although there were at least a few cannibal films before Cannibal Holocaust, so it isn't as if that is an original film either.]

StatCat

Not my cup of tea at all, CH I've always disliked for the real animal killing.

Dolph Lundgren

Yeah, I don't want to sound preachy or anything, but the real animal killings in this film is what's turned me away from it.  I'm sure it's a decent movie on its own, but I don't see why they had to resort to those methods.

It's definitely the hardest thing to watch in any of those films, though I think the ones in EATEN ALIVE were worse.  I don't watch those movies as often as I watch some of the others in my collection for that very reason.

Scott

I've been wanting to buy CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST at Best Buy along with GARDEN OF THE DEAD, but wasn't sure. The animal scenes  are totally unnecessary. To bad they didn't fake those scenes.

Johnny Blister

Well screw you,Greenpeace a***oles!

I loved the scene in"Bad Taste"when the sheep explodes!

Oh,amnd the scene in"Braindead/Dead Alive/however the f**k is called"where Zombie Vera Cosgrove eats Paquita´s dog!

You should find a copy of the animal cruelty video that one of my local stations used to show late at night. Cats being clubbed over the head and skinned in preperation for being cooked, a live pig having its flesh burned off with a flame thrower, and all real. You'd love it.
