Has anyone out there seen this masterPIECE? I actually read on-line reviews on IMDB that said it was actually pretty gory and action-packed. We have it here at a ma & pa place and i've been tempted to rent it.

Ken Begg

Grizzly is probably the most derivative of the Jaws knock-offs.  (Which is saying something.)  It is fairly gory, and one scene in particular is pretty offensive.  Still, if you want  a killer bear movie, this is probably the best you're going to do.

Great Sage

I saw "Grizzly" a while back...  And "YES," it is a "JAWS" knockoff on land.  However, like JAWS it provokes a sort of primal fear because as we all know a Grizzly can easily kill us, much like a Great White Shark.  The thrill and fascination with these genre type movies is not so much the gore, but the realization that these creatures could actually exist... Well, not actually, but they do exist in one form or another.

Saw this back in 1976 and it scared the crap out of me.  It remains a personal favorite, not really gory in the post Dawn of the Dead/Friday the 13th  era way most people consider gory these days, but fun stuff nonetheless and Girdler certainly does not skip on the sauce.  Heck its worth watching just for the b-movie casting.

The Burgomaster

I saw it years ago. It stinks.

One of the stars is Christopher George. That should tell you something.

I own A DAY OF THE ANIMALS on DVD, which is an equally bad movie by the same director (the late William Girdler).

"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

Cullen

I don't have any fond memories of Grizzly, but I wouldn't say it was terrible.  You could do worse (like the previously mentioned Day of the Animals.)

DAY OF THE ANIMALS was funnier--I dug when Leslie Nielsen goes wild.

Dunners

I remember seeing that scene talk about stupid. he bear hugs the bear.

BTW Ken what was the gory and offensive scene you were talking about?

save the world, kill a politician or two.

Brother Ragnarok

I like it.  This has become a traditional movie to watch on New Year's Eve for us.  We start it at about eleven, stop to watch the ball ceremony or go outside and fire shotguns (I live in the country, I'm from Iowa, I suppose I'm really just advancing the stereotype, but it's fun), and finish it in the new year.

Brother R

There are only two important things in life - monsters and hot chicks.

Foywonder

I'd guess he's referring to the scene where a small child gets viciously mauled and you see the child's severed leg go flying. Then it shreds the boy's mother. Pretty shocking scene.

Ash

I haven't seen "Grizzly" but whenever I think of bears in general I always picture the killing of that guy on Faces of Death by that bear or even better.....
That show where the lady is sitting next to the bear and he takes a hard swipe at her!
I think it was on "When Animals Attack"

Remember that one?

Yeah my fav. nature-run-amok movie is probably Squirm, good stuff.

Chopper

damn, that is pretty shocking for it's time!

Chopper

yes Ash, i very much do remember that "when animals attack" footage, another great examply of tv series to come out the artistic anus of fox. i've heard that bear footage of the man getting mauled in faced of death has been confirmed to be fake, i could be wrong though.

No more shocking than when Alex Kintner was shown getting pulled, screaming and thrashing, under the blood filled water in Jaws, which the scene was cloning rather effectively.
