Tales from the Crypt (1972 Version)

anyone out there seen this? i saw it a long time agon when i was 12, now that i'm 22, i bought it and re-watched it, i was very impressed! the fact it has good acting probably helps too. the special effects are obviously dated with the fake blood looking like sherman will's paint, but it's all pretty forgivable. the storys themselves, (there's a whole 5), are your basic tales from the crypt-comic bookish-abc-revenge plots, but they still manage to carry a lot of dramatic weight to them. my personal fav story has to be the one with Peter Cushing in it. He plays a nice, lonely poor man, driven to despair by a couple of greedy a***oles who end up getting theirs. why can't real life be like a horror film?

My wife and I were just talking about this film yesterday.  I remember the flick very fondly from my childhood, especially the story about the husband the wife brings back from the dead.  Great stuff!

wow! i didn't even know such a film exist. thanks a bunch, i'll have to check into that. these old 70's films seem to have an eeryness to them that's hard to duplicate.

Several years ago I saw about half of TALES FROM THE CRYPT on television, but I've never seen the whole thing.

This is one of the movies that I really wanted to see when I was a kid. The ads back in the 70s featured a skeleton that looked pretty cool (at least to a little kid). As soon as it is available on DVD, I'll be sure to buy it.

If you like TALES FROM THE CRYPT, you should check out a couple of similar movies:

* FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE: Peter Cushing plays the owner of a store that sells antiques and odd little trinkets. People come into the store and buy things, and then the movie splits off into several short stories about what happens to the people who visited Cushing's store.

* ASYLUM: Takes place in an asylum where various patients tell the stories of why they were committed.

Also check out The Monster Club with Vincent Price, John Carrdine and Donald Pleasance. My favorite of the three stories is the one about the ghouls.

I saw this when it was first released to the theaters. Probably one of the better horror anthologies out there. For another horror anthology with Peter Cushing, check out "Dr. Terror's House of Horrors." Christopher Lee is in it, as well.

I rather enjoy the show and the two movies that Tales From the Crypt has lately released (Bordello of Blood and Demon Knight) but have yet to see this one.

At least a couple of the stories in the old movies were remade as episodes of the TV show. In particular the one with the Santa Claus killer.

haha, talk about a horror story that could just about offend every normal christian going american. that episode & Silent Night Deadly Night would make a great double bill for some fun family christmas viewing!

I remember liking TALES FROM THE CRYPT (1972) alot when I first saw it. I remember the monkeys paw and the maze with razor blades in the walls.



Saw this film around 1979 at the Elkland H.S. auditorium. The area just built this new High School and they ran movies out of it on weekends. Some of the films I saw were:
