Thanks to those who directed me toward deepdiscountdvd.com
I was pretty skeptical but I really did my research on various places on the net and had a nice long diverse list of movies that I was comparing prices for to see who was really the winner. Deepdiscount without a doubt has THE lowest prices on all the movies I found, sometimes significantly cheaper than everyone else...not just a couple of bucks. And shipping is free, no matter what (if you opt for that method)

The downside is I like tracking my order, seeing where it is and imagining it going from the truck to my house. Their tracking is next to none..just a n"OPEN" or "SHIPPED" status, the time between those was also 5 days so the free shipping isn't for those who can't wait. But I can, I enjoy forgetting about the purchase and then finding the package at my doorstep one afternoon. Is the average shipment time on the free shipping about 2 weeks?

Amazon may be quicker on their free shipping but after really comparing prices, they are VERY overrated. Hopefully i don't encounter any shipment problems with this order, then i'll have to test how good deepdiscounts customer service is.

Brother Ragnarok

I think the free shipping is a little quicker than two weeks.  Between one and one and a half in my experience.  I've never had a problem with anything I've ordered from them, and I think that site rules.  When you buy as many movies as most of us do, that five or ten bucks' difference in price adds up fast.

Because of the cost of dvd's I don't have an extensive collection (i have less than 30) - plus i just got my dvd player last christmas. One thing i liked was when you added items to your cart and it showed how much you are saving vs. retail. I was amazed some movies I found where nearly $13 cheaper than amazon (and i'm not talking boxed sets). It seems they also guarantee if you find it cheaper elsewhere they'll match it (plus shipping) as I noted alot of their movies matched the prices plus what shipping wal-mart would entail for the $5.99.

But why nearly $30 for a movie when you can get it cheaper? Given some people's extensive 1000+ collections (that i've noted on aficianado) that's a huge savings over time. Hopefully deepdiscount modifies their site, their search techniques aren't smart if you mispell the title..often they are too specific. The only thing I don't get is if places like amazon are in the red how do sites like this get by?

Does anyone know if they have completely discontinued selling the Alien legacy? It's like I can't find any of the alien movies seperately either, they're all either out of stock or not sold.

Ash

Try Best Buy for the Alien Legacy box set.

I think I recall seeing it on the shelf there at my local store.

If you have Best Buy where you live I would call them to see if they have it.

It may cost you a bit more....but you'd have it.

Susan

I haven't tried best buy, I guess it's because everytime I go it's packed..there are only about 2 I know of in driving distance so I only go when I really need something (like my  tv stand or computer stuff) There's also have a fryes - anyone heard of them? I never really compared their dvd prices to best buy but they have a better selection. They just don't know how to categorize, the guy who is in charge of the dvd area must be a complete idiot. I see "rosemary's baby" in sci-fi and alot of sci-b movies in horror. I guess that peeve falls along the same lines of "why can't blockbuster alphabetize?" But i digress..

I'll give it a look, just wasn't able to find it or them individually anywhere online so I thought it would probably be more difficult in stores.

Scott

I checked out the prices at deepdiscountdvd and they are exceptional. Great prices averaging about 5 dollars below regular prices. Thanks for the tip.

Susan

Hey Scott, great huh? The free shipping takes a bit longer but you can't beat those prices, particularly if you enjoy buying in bulk or boxed sets.

If you go to dvdpricesearch.com and type in movie titles it'll compare some popular online store prices from amazon to walmart to deepdiscount. Overall deepdiscount comes out on top on nearly every search..the only time it doesn't it'll be one of the sites that has very low scores by customer votes and frankly I don't wanna take my chances with those.  I was actually having alot of fun on the dvdpricesearch site just comparing prices :-)

Brother Ragnarok

I wouldn't worry about buying the Alien legacy just yet.  Sometime within the next year they're releasing a nine disc (yeah, that's right, I said nine damn discs) version of the box set.  Unless you're not a features nut, I'd wait for that one.

I too think Deepdiscountdvd's search engine is lacking.  So what I do, is use the engine at DVDpricesearch.com for every film I'm looking for.  It direct-links you to the Deepdiscountdvd listing for that film.

Easy work-around.

Susan

Anon - i've inadvertantly found myself doing that same thing. DeepDiscount doesn't make room for typos, and they're really exact (for instance you coulnd't just type "The Stand" but you would have to do a search starting with Stephen King..and god forbid if you spell his name wrong) I also wish when browsing genres that more listings would come up per page..it makes browsing tediously long. But i guess you get easily spoiled on amazon..they must have paid alot to do their site, including the recommendations feature based on your purchases and rating of films.

And Brother R - I think a 9 disc set is too much for me! (features and the anticipated price as well). I like features but not as much as the films. I guess one thing is assured - there doesn't ever seem to be a final release on dvd of any popular movie, there's always the directors cut and special edition and limited edition..etc..etc...

raj

9 DVDs?  Yikes!  First floppy disks got to be too small to handle all the data, then cds, and now dvds; what's next uberdisks, which will be big enough to contain the limited, special, and director's cuts, but not the actors' edition, critics' edition, and fanboy edition.

Stop the madness!

Susan

i'm waiting for the bootleg edition filmed in a live theater so you can experience the joy of hearing people talking during the movie and blocking your view

Deep dissapointment dvd. My first order was received today and the cases to both of the movies were broken. When I called customer service some young girl seemed curt and very inexperienced dragged out a long silence before I had to say "Hello?" and she replied "yeah?". I was hoping not to get this type of experience the first time around. The item was already opened so before I ship it back to them I want to clarify that I will in fact get an exchange regardless (you couldn't notice it was broken until the seals were removed)

I asked if they could just send me a replacement case - i guess they don't do that.  I cringe at "you get what you pay for", and let one bad incident spoil everything. To be honest I really don't want to go through the hassle of returning it and waiting another several weeks or more, the actual discs are fine.

I don't want to let go of my movie now that I have it in my hands, i'd rather fork out the extra cash for a nice case.  (the double case one is cracked so badly where it clicks together that it won't even close) While this may not be how they normally do business, first impressions really leave a mark on me unfortunately. ;-/

Does anybody know of any retail stores that might sell single/double dvd movie cases where you don't have to buy them in bulk?

Susan - I'm really shocked with what happened to you. I've been purchasing DVDs from DeepDiscount since early February and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. Everything intact, every time, on time. Backorders maybe take only a week longer.

Susan

I can either go through another wait for a replacement (which in itself worries me because when you start shipping stuff away and waiting for stuff to come back to you is when problems seem to occur). I don't want to risk any further headaches, mixups or even sit through the long wait again so i'm saying 'screw it' and keeping the damaged case. The discs are fine (which is why i don't want to send them back) but I wish the case wasn't all broke. @#$!

Even if it costs me i'd want a replacement case since one will not close properly and has a huge missing piece where it clicks shut -  i was hoping someone might know where i could get one. I know jewel cases are sold in bulk (i've never seen a dvd movie case sold anywhere but I guess they would probably be sold in bulk too) Murphy's law - if anything can go wrong in my life it will?

I know no company is perfect, amazon has even shipped me the wrong order  (they later let me keep the book on marriage that I didn't order..gee thanks, what am I going to do with that considering i'm single?)
