Hi, I'm new to the list, and from reading all your posts I'm hoping you can help me find the name of a movie that has haunted me since I first saw it as a kid.  I'm pretty sure it was from the '40s, and the scene I remember is that a man is either in an elevator, or in a room, and the walls start to close in on him.  He picks up a floor lamp and tries to stop the walls from moving.

This movie scared the pants off me, so I can't tell you if he was successful with his lamp trick.

I have literally thought about this scene for about 50 years, so c'mon, folks, somebody else in this world must have seen this movie.

Mofo Rising

Wow, does that spark some dim recollections.  For some reason I can semi picture the walls looking really weird as they close in.

I don't know the name of your movie, and I don't know if it's the same thing I'm thinking of (I don't think it is), but for the record this is now going to drive me crazy as well.

A quick Google search came up with this page, a Robin Hood serial from the 40's.

Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

Just a shot in the dark, but I seem to recall The Raven (1935) having a scene where a guy is put in a room with walls that close in. Don't recall if there was a lamp though.

The Raven (1935)

Apostic

Watched it this past weekend.  Poe party.  We served Poe' Boy sandwiches and Poe-tato salad (with Poe-mentos!).  And we had both the 1935 and 1963 Ravens. If there was a lamp in the crushing wall room bit, I must've blinked and missed it.

Of course, there WAS an elevator room...

(This reminds me.  Must watch Cat and the Canary someday....)

"Were you Poe-lite?"

It would've been apro-Poe.

A-Poe-stic (No, wait.  That sounds crude.  Please don't call the Poe-lice.)

Thanks to all who replied that it was The Raven.  I don't know if this was one of those what I call "period" movies (where the stars wear cloaks and long dresses and drink grog), but I definitely remember the man in the room/elevator was wearing a suit.

In case if you dont know there were hundreds of movies that was before 1960, that was supose to be lost forever because of a storage fire...

many of those movies are lost classics and it could be possible that your movie is one of those lost classics...
