What movies would you like a prequal made too

I know that prequals have kinda been done to death lately, but I feel that there were always some movies that should have had a prequal made to them to help elaborate on some parts of the story.
First is I would like a prequal made to Willow, to address the past of Madmartigan.I always wanted to know how Madmartigan got in that cage and why Eric called him a thief.I think that a really cool story could be made here with the events leading up to his imprisonment.
Vampire Hunter D.Any fan of anime knows of this classic charector. Half human half vampire, he forever seeks out vampires to kill. Ive always wondered about D's past. His father was supposed to be Dracula I guess but I wonder why he has such a hatred for his own kind and how did he get that talking left hand.
Lastly I remeber hearing a while back that Beetlejuice was supposed to have a prequal but for some reason or another Tim Burton never made it.I don't know what the sequal would really address.Maybe how Beetlejuice had lived and died or about his early days as a bio-exorcist.
Im sure there are more movies but I can never think of many off the top of my head.

Not a big fan of prequels in general.  Usually when a movie is made, it is a self contained unit.  Often, open plots points are part of the art by the writer/director, to be filled in by the imaginations of the viewers.   Sequels and certainly prequels destroy the purity of that artistic expression.

There are, of course, certain notable exceptions (LoTR, for example, was made as a unit ... ).

We should not need every little thing explained to us, thereby making movies totally passive entertainment.  A little active imagination goes a long way ...

What they have done with Star Wars is a good example ... I saw SW when I was a kid, was the first in my class to see it.  I loved it, and still do for the pure excitement of that initial experience.  When ESB and RotJ came out, I thought "man, that sucks."  (I know some people like ESB better than SW, but to me it was a cheap sell-out).  Now, with the prequel crap that's out, even the original SW is tainted, at least a little, to me.

Part of what made SW work (among many other things) was the mystique of the Jedi - we heard only a little and actually saw only one, yet left thinking they were AWESOME, as well as how totally evil Darth Vader was.  Man, Vader was creepy in that first movie, choking people without touching them, feeling Obi Wan was near, etc.  Then, they go and wimp-i-fy Vader by making him WEAK as Luke's father, and WORSE YET, showing us what he looked like as a freaking little kid.  Arrrrgh.  "Lesson One in How to Ruin a Really Cool Villian."

Think about "Seven," man, John Doe is STILL scary because when the movie ended, he was still a bad guy - he never repented, he never softened.  His anonymity was scary as can be, we hardly new anything about him.  Should they ruin John Doe with some stupid prequel on what turned him so bad?? NO WAY!!!!

Bottom line:  to me, the ONE THING that makes a movie good, above fx, above naked chicks or whatever, is a good story.  Sometimes, good stories have holes, and if used creatively, the holes are active parts of the plot.

Just my $0.02.

Ok I know I shouldn't be doing this seeing as how it will open a whole other can of worms and will inavertantly change the topic of this post, but I completely dissagree with what you wrote. The Star Wars movies were from the begining designed as a series of movies. That is why they are numbered like they are.The first three movie are the best and I do think ESB is the best.I don't see why you think ESB was just some cheap sell out.How did they sell out, They froze Han Solo and sent him off to his doom,Luke got his hand cut off and found out Vader was his father, and for the most part the entier Rebel army is on the run.The movie ends on a down note which is a big departure from SW and ROTJ.
Now if you wanted to talk about were they actually started cheapning the story it started with ROTJ.It started out promising but ended up to kiddy at the end.The prequals have further brought the series down, with a over emphises on special effect, but don't care much about the story or acting.
But before there are a zillion posts on this topic about which Star Wars movie is better, lets remeber what this post is about and keep on topic.Please.

anyone here think they should make a prequel to Cruel Intentions?

oh wait, damn they already did that, and it was god awful.  No foresight whatsoever, awful casting and scriptwriting: take original script and reverse it, and now you have a movie.

I'd also like to see a prequel to Dumb and Dumber, oh wait they've done that too... I don't understand how getting someone who looks like the main characters means that it'd work...

I would actually like to see a prequel to the matrix, I was extremely disappointed with the second two, but when I watched the Second Renaissance clips from the animatrix [which dealt with how the robots rose up etc] I thought that was really cool.  Who knows...

The Burgomaster

How about a prequel to THE LAST MAN ON EARTH or the OMEGA MAN.  The movie could go into great detail about the last days of humanity.  Both of these movies have flashbacks that sort of tell the story, but I'd like to see a full-blown feature.

I'd like to see a well-done prequel to the Star Wars trilogy.

But seriously, I really hope Peter Jackson - or one of his assistant directors who I think are pretty talented as well - does the Hobbit.

ElectroSunDog

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me

It was a prequel to Twin Peaks, so we might get more answers if we go back to the verrrrrrrry beginning...say, back to the 1800s! I'd like to see Lynch's take on pioneer days. What would it be called?

I recently read something that Jackson does want to tackle The Hobbit.

I really wouldn't be surprised if they did do the Hobbit, after all the Lord to the Rings movies are a massive success: it would have been more of a shock for them to not do it [after all producers love money, and this is a guarenteed hit]

another film I'd like to see a prequel to would perhaps be for the Mad Max series.  I guess that ties in another post-apocalyptic film with a possible prequel; seems to be a pattern going!]

raj

The original Mad Max is sort of a prequel.  It did come out before Road Warrior, and deals with Max's life as a cop with a family life.  There is a disconnect between that (basically dealing with a motorcycle gang) and the post-apocalyptic world of Road Warrior.

Maybe what's needed is volume 1.5, which shows the world during the "apocalypse" (wasn't it just economic breakdown & drying up of oil reserves?)

jmc

I would like to see a prequel to 28 Days Later....not because I liked that movie, but because their descriptions of the early days of the Rage outbreak were more interesting than anything that was actually in the movie.

What would they call it . . . "Several Days Before?"

I know this may sound corny--but how about a prequel to "The Six Million Dollar Man"? It could explore Steve Austins life prior to the "accident" that made him Bionic. Possibly also Jamie Sommers "accident" could also tie in. (I think they did that on the show.. but how about big screen treatment?)

Hell, I'm still waiting for the first eight plans from outer space.  If resurrecting the dead is 'plan 9' what were the other failed attempts?
