I remember watching this movie when i was a kid and loved it. Waching it now, its a hoot. I recently saw a documentary on Joan Crawford, and I could not distinguish Joan from Faye Dunnaway who portrayed her.

I really dug this movie too. I remember getting a lump in my throat from watching the little girl hanging upside down.

No! . . . Wire! . . . Hangers!!!!

(That's the only clip I saw from the movie, but it is a freaky scene)

This is a movie that you should show kids when their pouting because you won't let them play in the snow without a hat and gloves.

I loved that scene "how many times have i told you christina...nooooo wireeee hangers EVER! Get out of that bed!"

I thought it was great performancewise when it came down to the simple facial expressions..even the little girl, there hardly needed to be dialogue for it was that expressive. However close to the truth it is or isn't..it's still a nice film to curl up and watch on mothers day ;-)

No doubt! It wouldn't have been as scary without the cold cream on her face as she bellowed....

And what about the brother? Apparently he grew up totally "normal" while spending his nights strapped to the bed in a harness????

While on a journey, Chuang Tzu found an old skull, dry and parched.
With sorrow, he questioned and lamented the end of all things.
When he finished speaking, he dragged the skull over and, using it for a pillow, lay down to sleep.
In the night, the skull came to his dreams and said, 'You are a fool to rejoice in the entanglements of life.'
Chuang Tzu couldn`t believe this and asked, 'If I could return you to your life, you would want that, wouldn`t you?'
Stunned by Chuang Tzu`s foolishness, the skull replied, 'How do you know that it is bad to be dead?'

That's one step away from a full blown straightjacket..which i'm sure he ended up in ;-)

The funny part is some of those expression dunnaway did were spot on with my mother when we crossed the line of no return....

Best line from the movie:

Joan(to daughter): I dont ask much from you...Girl! Why cant you give me the respect that I am entitled to??? Why cant you treat me like I would be treated by any STRANGER on the street????

Christina: Because I am NOT one of your FANS!!!!!!

(At this point Joan starts strangling Christina)

This movie is absolutely ICONIC! It's so damned quotable

"Don't f**k with me, boys, this ain't my first time at the rodeo"

And everyone knows the wire hanger bit. Then there are the other magical moments of Mother-Love! I don't know what Dr. Spock had to say about psychosis as a child rearing tool, but, I'm pretty keen on it! I never intend to let my children forget that "Life isn't fair, I'm bigger, stronger, faster, and I'll always beat you!"

Five words for calming any squabbles with your children." Christina, birng me the axe!"

Everyone has potentially fatal flaws, but yours involve a love of soldiers' wives, an insatiable thirst for whiskey, and the seven weak points in your left ventricle.
