Got back from the premiere last night -

One nice thing was the handout of the Spider Man comic (reprint) of the Punisher's first appearance.

The film started much like I expected - setting up the whole revenge plot on both side of the fence, etc.

However, the movie had a serious lag point, and that was the attempted comedic relief with Frank Castle's neighbors.

One of them looked like a hellraiser extra with multiple piercings and another was the token fat man whose purpose in life is to lip synch to opera music. The hot chick at the end of the hall was a nice touch, tho.

All in all, there were shootings, bombings, and a way cool stabbing through the chin that we got to see through an open mouth!

It's good for a rental. As comic book movies go, this one won't break any box office records this summer,  that'll belong to Spider Man 2.
Surprised Dolph Lundgren didn't make a cameo.

While on a journey, Chuang Tzu found an old skull, dry and parched.
With sorrow, he questioned and lamented the end of all things.
When he finished speaking, he dragged the skull over and, using it for a pillow, lay down to sleep.
In the night, the skull came to his dreams and said, 'You are a fool to rejoice in the entanglements of life.'
Chuang Tzu couldn`t believe this and asked, 'If I could return you to your life, you would want that, wouldn`t you?'
Stunned by Chuang Tzu`s foolishness, the skull replied, 'How do you know that it is bad to be dead?'

The trailers made the film look like Blade 2 without the matrix stuff. The idea of a punisher movie should be cool, but the trailers said otherwise so I won't watch it in theaters. But I might rent it. Any whose about the comic, is it like the origional with the old ads and crap? If not is it still worth some bread?

rich andrini

the movie actually takes heavily from the comics the plot is taken from a old mini series called punisher year one(thiers a joke of this on his black gto on his plates that says "year one") and charathers like the "russian" and his three roomates are from other punisher mini series that came out a couple years ago called "welcome back frank"

Now the question is; Who is everyone's favorite Punisher, Dolph or Thomas?

Neon Noodle

that depends on your taste -
If you care about seeing the skull with intolerable comic relief, go with Punisher 2004.
If you care more about the gritty anger and vengeance and the violence, go with Punisher 1989.

The comic is a Lion's Gate reprint, so it had ads for the 2004 movie, not the original stuff. Probably worth a couple of bucks but not much else right now. Ebay awaits.

A good review of both films can be found at Arrow In the Head movie reviews.
