The Horror genre is starting to fall

Is it just me or did all the promising horror films of the  year already came out and the rest will suck.

House of wax remake...Crap

anything else? or is that it for the horror movies?

Let's not forget that they had pretty much written off for many years until Scream - then it became pretty popular to do it and now inevitably, it's run out of good ideas. So it'll probably go into hibernation again and then repeat ad nauseum.

I'm also going to go out on a limb and guess that Ring 2 will be crap.

So the only promising one here is The Village which should be good I guess. M Night doesn't really fail at creating the atmosphere.

Nights good, his films arent perfect but hes always got good atmosphere and interesting characters and situations..and some good dialogue. give him time, he improves little by little every film.

Author Robert Weinberg in Horror of the 20th Century:  An Illustrated History claims that the interest in horror fiction in whatever medium--writing, celluloid, radio--has been cyclical since the last century.  It is currently on a wane, he claims.  Fear not, however:

LIke any genre it goes in cycles of popularity and quality, as already stated. I figure it will slink back to the cave to nurse its wounds for a while (usually when a lot of parodies have come out, a genre is oversaturated or played out for the time being).

Lately, the real creativity in horror has been overseas, especially in Asia, for the past few years. I'm curious about the upcoming film "The Grudge", but haven't seen the Japanese film series it is spawned from. I liked "Ringu", loved the atmosphere of "The Eye" (but was a little disappointed overall), and there are moments in "Audition" that still creep me out to think about.

I guess we Americans have to contend with foreign horror films crossing the ponds, getting remade in lesser US versions, or seeing folks like Guillermo del Toro make their names at home then come to the US until homegrown horror can recharge its batteries. Besides maybe it needs a rest unitl this current cycle Hollywood remaking everything (mostly badly) dies down for a while.

Yaddo42 i have the grudge the japanese version and its pretty good. the upcoming grudge wtih sarah michelle geller is directed by the same guy who did the japanese version. ive seen the trailer and wrote a topic about but none responed if wanna take a look its under the topic The Grudge. it also has the link to the american trailer of the grudge.

Every year the promising horror end up being crap.  So I stick to watching the old ones whenever I have a craving for good horror.

I can't say much of what has come out lately can even be called horror. Just varying proportions of teen drama, teen comedy and action, tossed together with a few gross-out special effects and stories that don't go anywhere. That or inferior ripoffs of better movies. Not much scary or even entertaining about it.

The last horror movie I really enjoyed was Ringu.

aren't there like three "RINGU"s in japan? granted the american RING sucked compared to the japanese version, it was still better than the american average offerings. so if the next american RINGU is a remake of one of the other japanese flicks, it might be OK.

from austalia- so tell me about the Village. when i eventually saw 'Sights' it scared the crap out of me.like the alien coming out of the cornfield while Mel was looking for something, & @ a kids bithday where the alien walks across the screen - spooked the hell out of me.

I thought that both the TCM remake and the Dawn of the Dead remake were damn good.  Also you've got House of 1000 Corpses that was good, and we have House of 1000 Corpses 2:The Devil's Rejects to look forward to.
