My Newest List of Films to View (Upated)

Been away for a while from the messageboard due to a trip to Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Utah in June. Usually it takes me a while to get back on the board on a regular basis and I would like to appologize to anyone I've let down as a moderator, but I couldn't find the time over the last month and was only able to peek in once in a while. Our host Andrew made some new moderators so hopefully that will solve that problem. This is my favorite place on the internet.

I find that a list of films always gets me off to a good movie marathon. Here is my latest list. Maybe this list will jump start my biggest marathon yet. I'm running short on significant films to view though:

Eerie Midnight Horror Show - I have the DVD. The picture quality isn't great. The movie has its moments, but is generally forgettable.

Kill Bill - Excellent choice.

Vanishing Point - A 1970s drive-in classic. Recommended.

Necromantic - Possibly the most disturbing movie I have ever seen. If the special effects were more realistic, it would be very difficult to watch.

Let Sleeping Corpses Lie - Very good Euro-Zombie movie.

Cannibal Ferox - Aka "Make them Die Slowly." An entertaining gore-fest.

Cannibal Holocaust - Most people love it, but I think CANNIBAL FEROX is much better.

Men Behind the Sun - Interesting gore movie, with some disturbing scenes.

Run Lola Run - Nice concept, but the dubbing is terrible. After you see it once, the novelty of the story structure wears off.

I Spit on Your Grave - A "must see," but not as shocking as the hype might lead you to believe.

Last House on the Left - Good companion feature to I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE. I think it is better than I SPIT . . .

Jean Rollin and Russ Meyer films - I have several of each. Most are entertaining in one way or another.

kill bill- iam with burgomaster good pick.
last samuari- i got on dvd and thought it was ok. i did enjoy it but i felt something was missing.

The Last Samurai is a good choice.
Its only drawback is the cheesy Hollywood ending.
Watch it and tell me it would've been better if they'd ended it differently.

By the way, I have 2 of the Coffin Joe movies. They are definitely unique and fun to watch. They are in Portuguese, with English subtitles. My wife is from Brazil and she said that Coffin Joe (which is the English version of "Ze do Caixao") was (and is) very famous in Brazil.

Yojimbo , Oxbow Incident, and My Darling Clementine are all classics. Hope you're watching Yojimbo with subtitles, it is the inspiration for A Fist Full of Dollars. The Oxbow Incident actually used to be shown in high school (60's) as a warning about hasty judgements vigilantism.

My Darling Clementine , what can you say a John Ford classic with a lot of stars in it.

Gotta disagree about Run Lola Run. I agree about thedubbing it is horrible, but the subtitles are better and more accurate. The novelty factor is still pretty high, for me, after a few viewings. Twyker stuck in a lot of visuals that give it a high replay factor, such as the tortise/domino scene at the begining. Plus all the references to spirals, the number 20, and a few other running themes. Then there's the question of the bum and the gun.

"Run Lola Run" is an awesome movie! Really good choice! If you like the female lead in it, you can also find her in "The Bourne Identity".

"Yojimbo" is awesome too- I also recommend "The Seven Samurai" and "The Hidden Fortrice"

Those 2 really stuck out- good choices & have fun!

Welcome back, Scott. We wondered where you were.

Well, we know where you'll be for the next two months.

Since someone has already mentioned "The Ox-Bow Incident," my take on the least to the best.

"The Bat"
Based on the novel by Mary Roberts Rinhart. One of Price's lesser works. Mostly for Price completists.

"The Train Robbers"
One of Wayne's lesser films, but not unwatchable, and with a cast that includes Wayne, Ann-Margaret, Rod Taylor, Ben Johnson, Christopher George, Bobby Vinton, Jerry Gatlin, and Ricardo Montalban. It has its moments.

"Countess Dracula"
Hammer's take on the Bathory story. Typical Hammer. Plush cinematography. Plush sets. Ingrid Pitt is in it. She's better in "The House That Dripped Blood" (IMHO), but as long as her two best assets are front and forward, she'll always be one of my favorite horror actresses. It also stars the late Nigel Green. One of the better British character actors.

"Aces High"
There are few modern films about the airwar in WWI, and this is one of the better ones. It helps that the cast includes Malcolm McDowell, Christopher Plummer, Simon Ward, John Gielgud, Trevor Howard, and Ray Milland, among others.

"Vera Cruz"
It's all in the cast. Besides Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster and Denise Darcel, it probably has one of the finest collection of villains ever gathered to gather for one film. Cesar Romero, George Macready, Ernest Borgnine (before "Marty" humanized him), Henry Brandon, Charles Bronson, Jack Lambert, and Jack Elam.
And it is one of the first theatrical films ever directed by the late Robert Aldrich.

Aces High was a Spaghetti Western starring Eli Wallach. I heard is was a good one. Thanks BoyScoutKevin for the info.
