Jerry Goldsmith died of cancer on July 21st.
A film score composer; check out his works on imdb : his range, quality and depth are not for me to discuss.
He was 75.

IMDB claims he wore an ape mask while composing The Planet of the Apes.  Quite a sense of humor, apparently.  An Oscar went to his work on The Omen.
