Has anybody else noticed that there has been an oustanding  number of new so-called  horror movies coming out. Like The Ring, Darkness Falls, the Grudge, or this new one i just saw the previews  for call  Darkness. Not that i dont like horror movies, but its just that there all rated pg-13, and i tend to like "bloody" horror movies, typically ones rated R or un-rated. WHEN ARE MORE OF THESE GUNNA COME INTO THEATERS!?

Unfortunately the PG-13 horror film is probably here to stay. Nowdays studios can get away with more violence for a pg-13 rating and retain the teenage audience that wants to go see scary movies without mommy and daddy. It really sucks because many teenagers cant SHUT THE F__K UP DURING A MOVIE!!!! All do respect to those who do remain quiet. Still the Ring and the Grudge were much better than Scream and it's countless clones from a few years back and Japanese horror is getting some well deserved attention.

I have to disagree with you there, maybe not so much the sequels but Scream (the first one) is still one of the smartest horror films I've seen (dialogue and cinematically).

I havent' seen the Grudge but like the Ring i just didn't like too much. but alot of people did like it so whatever.

It's all a matter of personal opinion. Sometimes I forget that and go on one of my "I'm the god of knowledge" nerdy snob rants. We'll agree to disagree. : )

I have also been enjoying the recent horror flicks [though I haven't seen Darkness Falls, I haven't actually heard much positive stuff about it]

Grudge and Saw were two recent viewings which were pretty good!

Saw was a particular favourite of mine.  And hurrah for the return of the zombie film! how I missed thee...

But this feeling won't stay for long: Scream and its ripoffs were not too bad at one stage [though not great] but countless hollywood versions of the same story eventually killed the horror in those films, and I fear the same will happen to Japanese horror rip offs [though I love the Jap ones more, even if they are crap]

So lets enjoy it while it lasts, and then wait for the next thing in horror films, after all, the horror industry is fairly cyclical, every few years the genre goes into a lapse as all the ideas that are being put out onto film are all fairly similar, so people get bored, and then a new idea comes along and everyone jumps on that bandwagon.

The best and worst thing about horror films is that everyone can relate to them.

That's why studios make so much bank off of horror flicks.  People love to be scared.  Everyone has their fears and I'm sure that something horrific has happened to everyone in the past.  It's a creature's nature to be scared and that's why we love it.  It makes us feel alive.

I have found though that the Japanese/Korean/Asian horror market is amazingly good.  The best horror films out there are coming from other countries.  Our filmmaking business here in the states is in a rut.  We can't come up with anything original, and then if we do a remake, we do a s**tty job of it.  This isn't going to change in the least until we have some real filmmakers step up to the plate with some original ideas.  I was hoping at one time that Eli Roth would be one of those people, but it seems he too has been brainwashed.  His next film is going to be a remake of  The Bad Seed.

I also think that the MPAA has hindered the horror market in the states in the last 15-20 years.  They cut down horror films so much nowadays and completely ruin the director's vision of the film.  s**t, why bother?  Kids are going to be seeing worse on the nightly news every evening as terrorists continue to attack in other countries and our troops are dying.

Another hinderance to the horror market is the Unrated Releasing.  Back when things were good, you could completely bypass the MPAA and release your film without a rating.  This is not the case anymore.  Nobody wants to carry your film if it is unrated, especially not the large chains like Lowes, Carmike, etc.  It's just so stupid.  There are so many great ideas out there that will NEVER make it to celluloid, or will be a DTV release and forgotten because the director didn't want his vision to be cut.

I've had enough of this.  We seriously need some type of uprising in the horror community.  Why not boycott all of those s**tty horror flicks that get released instead of going to see them?  I know you all do it, hell I even did it.

Something needs to change in order for the states to actually have a good horror market again.  We need films that really have a mean-streak.  Our current filmmaking business needs to look at film from abroad such as Oldboy, Haute Tension, Undead, etc and find why those films work instead of making another stupid f**king remake.

A bald man named Savalas visited me last night in a dream.  I think it was a Telly vision.
