I caught this one yesterday. It's about space crew manning the first rocketship to the moon. Loyd Bridges sexually harasses the only female crew member until unknown forces knock them off course all the way to the planet Mars. On Mars the crew finds the wreckage of an Alien civilization which through mere visual scanning and a quick giger counter reading the leader and top scientist (Morris Ankrum) is able to conclude is the result of Atomic warfare thousands of years ago. He's that good. The crew is attacked by bloodthirsty martian mutant cavemen  who are the survivors of the great Atomic war. The survivors return to the ship and take off for earth only to run out of gas before they can make a landing. They radio back and explain what happened to their doctor buddy at mission control so he can single handedly end nuclear proliferation on earth. Harraser and harrasee embrace and blam, they crash and die locked into their innapropriate love affair.

Given it was made in 1950 this movie isnt really bad at all. Its actually some pretty good sci fi and shows how rocket and space travel theories were coming together back in 1950.

ROCKETSHIP X-M isn't bad, but I enjoyed PROJECT MOONBASE much much more.

Lloyd Bridges was offered the Captain's part on Star Trek and turned it down because being in Scifi would ruin your career. I guess he didn't have a good experience with this one.

I noticed you mentioning the sexual harrassment. I have a hard time sometimes watching old movies or reading old Science Fiction from the pulp days because of the attitudes towards women expressed in them .

It always kills me when they  went to the trouble of making the woman in the crew a highly degreed scientist type and all she does is make coffee and put off advances from the lead character.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

Dang Scott, is there anything you havent seen? : )

I'll have to nab Project Moonbase if I run accross it.

If they remade it today...obviously with an FTL drive ship...just how SHOULD a hero try to make time with a lady?
Hummm....okey...Earl Basset in TREMORS 2. He did pretty well with the gal...Oh,Momma!...and on that note, i still ask...how would you write such a scene?

"Aggressivlly eccentric, and proud of it!"
