Land Of The Dead

Less than 24 hours to go until Romero's genius will be released onto the world once again.  It doesn't seem like nearly seven years ago that I was reading the script online, waiting with excitement until it'd finally see the light of day.

It's almost here guys.  I can't wait.  It's going to be all I can do to not shed a tear when I see the words: "Directed By: George A. Romero".  I know that everyone had Star Wars and War Of The Worlds on their 'must see' list this year, but Land Of The Dead has always been at the top of mine.  Film hasn't been the same for me since I first picked up Night Of The Living Dead on VHS back in High School.  Ever since, I've spent most of my time hunting down any and all zombie flicks out there.  It's an obsession.

God...I can't wait.

Anyone who sees the flick, PLEASE post your reviews here.  I hope it lives up to our expectations!

I know; isn't it awesome? Now for the weird part. My dad seriously thinks that Romero didn't direct it, and that his name is just on it to sell tickets. I told my dad he didn't know what the hell he was talking about, but he still insists.

Got alotta homework to do over the weekend, but I have every intention of catching an early show of "Land of the Dead" Friday afternoon.  I'm not without abit of trepidition, but it's got an intriguing cast and it's Romero, so yeah, I'm pumped!

And to think that his "Dawn of the Dead" didn't even make it into regular showtimes down here(Florida Panhandle) when it first ran(it only had 'Midnight' showings).
It's playing at three area theatres!  Viva La Zombies!

Unfortunatly, I'm not in the same situation.  I checked the local movie guide at 9 tonight when they updated it and it looks like despite my excitement, I'll not be able to see the film.

It's only playing at a theater 2hrs away, and eventhough we've made the trek before for lesser films (Cabin Fever, etc) it just doesn't look like we'll get a chance this weekend......sad sad day........

I was all prepared to see this film, i haven't gone to a movie in a theater in so many months...heck i don't even know if i've seen anything this YEAR.

it's playing on one screen 30 freakin miles from me in downtown dallas. wtf?
the theater closest to me is playing Herbie: fully loaded on 2 screens and Bewitched on 3. There is no justice....

Well I saw it this afternoon and just got back and I have to say this movie really raised the bar for zombie movies and is excellent. So here goes a plot summary: Zombies have been around for awhile and humans now have setup a city that basically gone back to the days where rich live in a "Ivory tower" and poor live in the slums. The zombies are now taken for granted. Their not a force to be reckoned with like in previous movies. Until a leader zombie emerges. He teachs the others to use weapons and attacks the city. In the midst of all this the humans main protection a tank like vehicle called "Dead Reckoning" is stolen and held for ransom. Dennis Hopper (sorry don't remember his movie name)sends a a team to get it back.

The acting on everyone is solid but noone really stands out. "Dead Reckoning" reminds of the buses in remake of Dawn but 10x cooler. The zombies and gory I am not afraid to say blows every recent zombie movie away. Also this movie IMO shows why slower zombies are cooler. Everything else to to charater and dialogue is typical Romero. The strong black leader evident in Romero flicks is now the zombie leader. Also the zombie gaining intellgenice is handled very well it like a "baby" discovering new things.

Overall if your a zombie fan this movie is "it". If not its still a dam good movie.

Well guys, eventhough I started the thread, I fear I will have to wait until a DVD release.....

As I mentioned, it's only playing 2hrs from here and we have no babysitter this weekend.  Usually I would go next weekend, but I have to work he next two weeks straight - no days off.

Hopefully LOTD will make a hue opening this weekend and it will be shown at the local theaters at that point.  I'd really HATE to miss this flick on the big screen....

Hey all!
I wanna apologize for sorta dropping the ball on a review of this fine new Romero flick.  I did indeed find a chance to catch it in the first show of it's opening day here, and wasn't disappointed!  Just that this new course I'm taking is busting my balls, and I barely have time to check/respond to emails at the moment, let alone give the proper love I'd like to give to "Land of the Dead".  

All-in-all, I second Rich's recommendations.  Best looking zombies yet, beaucoup gore, and solid acting by everyone involved.  John Leguizamo(sp?) was great, and the guy who plays the lead was also terrific.  On the other hand, I do have a minor nitpick with it.  I sorta preferred the earlier Romero flicks(or the recent "Dawn of the Dead" remake) for the fact that they didn't have 'name' actors.  It's quibbling, I know, but somehow, I just couldn't shake the fact.  It's dumb, but I'm able to fall into these types of movies more if I don't recognize the players.

Beyond that, though, it was a triumphant return!  T'was easy to spot the "Land of the Dead" patrons from the rest of the matinee crowd lined up for "Herbie" and whatnot.  ;-]
I was stoked to see that the theatre was nearly packed for a midday show!  That doesn't happen often for most movies, let alone zombie flicks!  Crowd was into it, too!  Not in that annoying Friday night crowd way of talking to the screen and all, but really ready for the Master to bust loose with thee s**te.  I was surprised when I made my way up to a free seat in one of the higher rows next to what I thought in the dark was a guy and his daughter.  Turns out, it was a tiny Asian woman, and it was great to see her reactions throughout the movie!  The guy couldn't have picked a better movie for snugglin'!

Anyway, I could blather on about this movie, but I got some salmon to woof down before sleep.

I'm sorry to hear that some of you won't be able to catch "Land of the Dead" until it hits disc.  It was a great big-screen ride.

Saw it Friday night(which has it's own little story). LOVED IT! This one is going on my list of favorite zombie movies. Story,action, direction supremo! This is one of those movies you give as an example when asked why you like a genre. Hopefully everyone will get a chance to see this soon. It's worth it.

I never listen to critics anyway but worst reviews I seen about the movie really hold no water.Not being scary enough shows you know nothing about zombie movies.  Comparing it to remake of Dawn and 28 Days I feel is a bit wrong because well that dealt with zombies just emerging while Land dealt with zombies being around for quite awhile and knowing how to deal with the zombies than humans fall again. I do admit it does not have alot of tension but I was not expecting alot of that anyway.
