I recently learned that Sly Stallone is going to be starring in Rocky VI.
I know a lot of you might groan after hearing that but I think it sounds great!

Stallone is writing and starring in it and it's rumored that Vin Diesel will play the "bad guy" boxer and that Mr. T will reprise his role as Clubber Lang.  (he's supposed to be a boxing commentator in it)
Cool!

Here's the synopsis from Movies.com:
"Sylvester Stallone returns for a sixth time as Rocky Balboa, a tough-as-nails Philadelphia boxing champ. Only now Rocky is old, really old. In this installment of the sports saga, the 54-year-old Balboa is lured out of retirement for one final fight. Reuters reports that this Rocky film will be more in line with the low-budget original, focusing on story rather than spectacle. Stallone will write the script and star, but there has been no word as to whether he will direct, as he did the first film."

If Sly can indeed keep it more true to the original...it actually might be a pretty good film.
One I'm willing to go see in the theater.  (I've never seen a Rocky film in one before)
Someone on the IMDB message boards stated that it could be his best performance since Copland.
I was hoping the exact same thing.

Any thoughts?

Dr. Whom

I hear there's another Rambo in the works. Stallone must be broke

Stallone didn't direct the first one. He did, however win an Oscar for writng it.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

We've had Alien vs Predator.

How long before we see Rocky vs Rambo?

AndyC

I think Rambo would probably win that one pretty quickly, what with the automatic weapons and all.

Actually, this is about the coolest bit of movie news I've heard in a while.

What would be even better would be to see a few of the action oldtimers get together and make an ensemble movie, a Great Escape type of thing. I could almost see the likes of Arnie, Sly, Bruce Willis and maybe one or two others getting together just for nostalgia's sake, to prove they're still the best. Throw in Van Damme and Chuck Norris too, and everybody's regular supporting players (Jesse the Body, Bill Duke, Carl Weathers, Sven-Ole Thorsen, etc.). It would be a long shot, but a guy can dream. Hell, a Schwarzenegger/Stallone buddy picture would be fantastic, and quite feasible.

That's the same idea which is what attracted me to Tango and Cash: that idea of two stars starring in a movie.  I'd actually love to see an ensemble cast full of people over 40.   It would be nice, refreshing, and more importantly, actually interesting to me.

That being said, I don't really care that there's another Rocky film in the works, though I have been enjoying Stallone's last few films [Copland was pretty good] And it would be funny to see Mr T back on the big screen!

Mmmm... Whatever happened to Mr. T? When has become speaking in your own language a barrier for stardom?

I'd like to see some Predator-ish film style with lots of buffed up actors of the 80s school, like Mr. T, Carl Weathers (who was already on the first Predator movie) and so on. Could be lots of fun.

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

Duh!  I can't believe I didn't catch that.
John G. Avildsen directed the first one.
I always get his name wrong...when I see it I think Advil..the headache medicine.

Don't forget to toss Chuck Norris into that cast, as well as Steven Seagal.

There would be so much posturing going on, nothing would ever get done.

Does anyone remember the scene from Twins, where Arnie looks at a poster for Rambo II, checks his own bicep and gives the poster a dismissive wave?

Ash

Oh yeah!
Shooting for "Rocky Balboa" AKA Rocky VI will begin in December.
It will be shot in L.A. & Philadelphia.

Mr. T suffered a bout with cancer. He was diagnosed in 1995 and I think he  has been okay since about 2001. I think he had lymphoma.

And you thought Trek isn't cool.

Oddly enough, I recall a comic book from several years ago where they were discussing the lastest  version of Rocky  that was in the works.  Rocky was going to be duking it out with an alien on the space shuttle.....

AndyC

I'm reminded of the futuristic Rocky poster seen in Airplane II, with the geriatric Rocky. Can't remember the exact numerals......20-something, I think.

I was thinking of Spaceballs where the TV announcer says, "We now return to Rocky 5...THOUSAND!"
