Daniel Craig plays Jewish Resistance leader Tuvia Bielski in this very well-made, gritty story of heroism and survival during Europe's darkest hours.  Based on a true story of Jewish refugees who joined the Red Army Partisans and built a free and independent village for themselves in the forests, evading capture for four long years, this movie is simply a must see.  Very well acted and played, this movie kept my wife and I absorbed for its full 2 hour plus length.  Don't miss a chance to view this modern masterpiece!  Daniel Craig is superb, and Liev Schreiber is brilliant as his brother Zus.  As a history person, I found this depiction of warfare on the Eastern front to be compelling and fairly accurate.
Anyone else see this one?

The Burgomaster

This movie was generally interesting and never boring . . . but it left me feeling sort of empty.  I didn't find it to be an emotionally stirring experience.  SCHINDLER'S LIST and LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL were much more emotionally charged.  I didn't see DEFIANCE during its theatrical run, but I did buy the DVD.  It's a pretty good movie, but it just didn't draw me in emotionally as much as some other movies about the Nazi era.
"Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me the hell alone."

I saw this just after it came out. I thought it was pretty good. I was actually suprised I thought it was just another cheesy action flick. But it actually was pretty good and accurate at the same time.

Torgo

While the performances were great all around, the movie never really clicked with me the way that I thought it would. I'm going to revisit it in a few months and see what my opinion is then.
"There is no way out of here. It'll be dark soon. There is no way out of here."
