^ Now to only find a news stand- they may still have them in the big city, but are obsolete here.

I don't think I've ever seen a news stand. Maybe in an airport, but I'd usually consider those small stores, since you can enter them & walk around. Around here, newspapers were always sold in real stores, or in coin-operated machines.

Back in the 70's and 80's, we had a news stand right here in Lawton that sold paperbacks, comic books, news papers, monster magazines, porn mags, western mags, outdoor mags, woman's mags, true crime mags,-all sortsa stuff. One whole wall full. And Soda pop, candy, bubblegum cards, chips- now it's a liquor store.  :bluesad: And I don't drink no' mo'. I been sober since last November.
(well, I still smoke pot...)

Local stations broadcasting reruns of 50's, 60's, & 70's TV shows. They still air them, but on digital subnets. On their main channels, it's all really TV, game shows, news, & infomercials.

Big hair

A hairstyle that died out like dinosaurs. Never came back, not even as a retro style fashion trend.

Mullets apparently never went away. They only went through changes.
Is it October yet?

Video rental stores have closed in Pretoria entirely and there used to be so many. ☹️

^ They still have a Redbox machine at the Dollar Store here in Lawton. I don't know anyone who uses it.

Redbox's owner Chicken Soup For The Soul Entertainment filed for bankruptcy this year and all machines and venues will be shut down soon.

^ Makes sense. Why go all the way to the Dollar store when you can stream most recent releases anyway? I don't think I vere paid to stream a film, but then I never rented from Redbox either, so...
I can't say that for the old Mom and Pop video stores of the past though. Were else could I have first seen gems like the AVENGING DISCO GODFATHER or FACES OF DEATH?

I remember watching FACES OF DEATH on VHS years ago and going 😳😳😳, saying "Some of these just have to be fake" 😁🐢

According to Wikipedia, most were. They had an edit with mostly real footage, but it lacked narrative structure, so they hired an FX company to shoot new footage.

The section on the film's production lists some of the real footage, & how some of the fake footage was filmed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faces_of_Death

There was another series, Traces of Death, which apparently used mostly real footage: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traces_of_Death

There was another film like this called THE KILLING OF AMERICA. Rattled the heck out of me 😳

Just reading about "Face of Death" made me feel icky; I do NOT want to click that link.

Yeah, fake or not, the whole FACES OF DEATH thing is just too icky for me. I've seen things in my life I wished I could unsee, I don't want to watch 90 minutes of that kind of footage.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...
