I posted this in the "YouTube Of The Day" thread. I really think this may be the absolute worst song I've ever heard.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD2LRROpph0
Please, prove your bravery by watching ALL OF IT. I know the girl is only 13 but I really think mommy and daddy pushed her to think she has actual talent. Plus if you throw yourself out there by singing such an awful song you deserved to be picked apart critically.
I kind of like it for it's awkwardness. its almost sort of punk in that respect

I saw it back when it only had like 750,000 hits. Errgh. :hatred:
I do like one of the YouTube comments, which was something along the lines of "The black guy in this video lost all of his black credibility by being in this."
- TGWD
It circulated work today and I actually hadn't heard of it before then. We had massive arguments of whether or not it was real. Side note, I heard the black guy was the producer or something.
It's a pretty insipid song. I don't quite get all the hatred towards it, though, since if you're not a 12-year-old girly girl there's really no reason for this song to be in your view.
The only reason I know about it is because of this video, which a blog I read pointed to.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxleH60hDJY
Not as bad as this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGwB-f1xfxM
It's not a bad song. Considering it's a mostly vanity label from what I understand. I read some writers in Rolling Stone actually gave her some good reviews when she sang in person for them or some such. She's young, didn't write it, didn't produce it so I guess she shouldn't necessarily take all the flack or hatred. She just wanted to sing some songs and the producer gave her this albatross.

Now, where did I put that rusty old spoon so I can
dig out my eyes.
Gotta be the most banal lyrics I've ever heard. Maybe it's a parody? I'm not up on what young people would be parodying these days.
I really don't mind her voice too much, she's got that one note down pretty well. Of course I only made it about 1:30 into it.
I understand that people will defend this video/song which is fine. All opinions are appreciated but for me personally:
Top Reasons Why I Hate This Song/Video (to be taken half light heartedly)
1.) If there is one age group that totally annoys me, its 13 year olds.
2.) Her voice is ridiculously nasally
3.) Do we really need another pop princess? Doesn't Disney have that covered?
4.) The lyrics contain some of the worst fillers I've ever heard. Mick Jagger or Steve Perry could simply be singing "whooaaaaa" and "yeaaaaaah" for a few bars and we went with it. However combine reason #2 with lyrics like "FUN FUN FUN".
5.) We've had enough songs about the weekend and Fridays.
6.) I'm sick of the "My Sweet 16" kind of crowd (yes I know she's 13 but it fits) that seem to keep getting what they want.
7.) Certain people are claiming cyberbullying for this song/video. I guess if some idiot is saying "go kill yourself" its unappropiate. Still, if you throw yourself out there in the public eye you better be ready for that.
8.) Braces and moles scare me
9.) The rap guy is just silly
10.) Improper English is used in the breakdown part of the song.
I't s better than anything katy perry or no doubt ever did. or U2 for that matter
doggett- nice!. They're really stylin at that public pool.

This girl may be the most hated kid on the planet right now. Which sucks in a way, cause she just wanted to record a song that she didn't write. But I'm sure she's getting some money off of this, so good for her. Hopefully whatever she gets goes towards some college or something cause I doubt she'll be in the music field five or six years from now.
Whoever wrote and marketed this song is a genius though. Cause everyone seems to know the song.

She just shouldn't have been allowed. I'm assuming her parents have "connections" and/or are rich. I remember a girl from my high school recorded some song about spoons (yes those metal things you eat with!) and it was an unholy abomination. The world was lucky that it didn't get promoted or picked up by anyone who's in the industry with severe brain damage. I swear if any of you guys had of heard it, your heads would've gone Louis Del Grande style....

From what I read, her parents are veterinarians and paid $4,000 for the company to produce a music video while the Black's retain ownership of the master recording. Go figure.

God, I love this version so much. Shows you really starkly how vapid our celebrities and songcrafters are so often these days, and the way they pale standing in the shadows of the artists who came before them. And this is coming from a guy who is really not a Dylan fan at all.
Have you seen the death metal version too? Hi. Larry. Us.
The best thing Rebecca Black can do now is play out the idiocy of the song in parodies. Then make a comeback in a totally different genre of music like metal or alternative rock. Hey it worked for Alanis Morisette...

That's cool. I certainly can laugh at it.
I used to be an assistant manager at a Guitar Center for 3 years. I worked primarily in Pro Audio. I would deal with the occasional early teen "artist" whose parents would come in with them thinking they were the next big thing, while trying to grind me on special deals on recording gear, all the while crying about how broke they were but it was so important that they do everything they can so their son or daughter can make it. When I see something like this clip it totally reminds me of all those scenarios.
Hey, I appreciate that parents want their kids to succeed, but there comes a time when you gotta let them make it or not make it on their own. I have a 3-year-old son who can already play melodies on a keyboard and seems to show surprisingly good pitch recognition. If he continues to show a strong aptitude for music you bet I will support it, but if it's his dream to make it a career, then it's
his dream, not mine.
I know this is played out, but...

You and me are in the same boat, buddy. I actually still think the song is just... horrendous, but, hey, this is the BadMovies.org board... isn't it obvious that I love the horrendous? Seriously though, I find myself quite admiring and feeling affection towards Rebecca Black the person, if not Rebecca Black the singer. The whole debacle between her and Ark is a contributor to my changing feelings, I'm sure. Even from the beginning, it's obvious Ark was always just a pile of $#!% vanity press-esque teen-exploitation machine. Whether I like it or not, Black, in the interviews with her I've seen, has a surprising inherent likeability factor that is admittedly in opposition to the original image I had of her (that of a talentless spoiled vain wanna-be star... now, she seems to me more to be just a normal everyday girl of her age, albeit still mostly talentless).
By the way, after watching the "Hitler Defends Rebecca Black" video, I am now forced to say something I never thought I'd say: I completely agree with Hitler.
I also think it's important to note that, as the criticisms of Black have gotten meaner and nastier, it's become somewhat natural to want to defend her. When I first discovered the song, obviously I made fun of it. Because obviously it's terrible. But I make fun of b-movies, too. I don't think they're terrible, and I don't get mean and nasty about it. I don't think of ill of Black, never did, and I have no reason to cal, l her names or issue her death threats or anything like that. Making it personal like that, like a lot of people have done, makes a guy like me, who is more from the school of "poking fun" than the school of "mean & nasty", makes me wanna say "hey, now... slow your role, chico!" and stand up for the poor gal. Yes, what's she's made is clearly lacking in serious artistic merit or even basic compositional competence. But that doesn't make her the antichrist or some villain. Besides, it's hardly any more vapid, disposable, repetitive, or uninspired than anything released by Madonna in the last two decades, or by Britney Spears throughout her entire career. In a twisted way, Friday's Disney-esque rejection of the more "mature" elements of modern-day bubblegum pop is a somewhat welcome, nostalgic return to the more clean, sanitized, cute n' cuddly bubblegum pop of yesteryear, when it really WAS bubblegum, pink and sugary and cheap and utterly, utterly disposable. And it somehow feels less processed than the overly clean-cut artists that the aforementioned Disney has actually churned out in the last few years.

I think we have the same sort of affection for Rebecca as we do for any entertainer who gives us an unintended laugh. The song and the video are bad, but in the same entertaining way as many of the movies we so enjoy. And being that she's largely a joke, I find her much less offensive than say, Justin Bieber, who is no better in my opinion, but gets taken seriously.
And I agree that there's nothing wrong with pop music that just tries to be fun. I'd rather have some meaningless, bouncy tune about getting down on Friday than an overwrought piece of crap that tries to be deep and important, or sexualizes teenage girls enough to be almost creepy. Sure, Friday isn't a meaningful work of art, but it doesn't pretend to be.

I have to say I like Friday much better.
Her voice sounds better on the second song but only up to par with whatever trash Disney is pumping out now.
I asked one of our high school volunteers about the reaction to RB in her school and she rolled her eyes.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and bet that she has more fans among the creepy older guy demographic than she does amongst the 15 and under. Just a hunch.

I'm insulted! No one talked about Black's next great hit that just arrived last month: Person of Interest

Well she made it past Kim Kardensian levels of bad music, but she still hasn't reach Miley Cyrus level. Maybe another song will put her there.
Still, I feel she'll never reach My Little Pony standards of music. Sad really.

Did anyone catch the Kohl's Black Friday ad that riffed on the Rebecca Black "Friday"?
BTW, I occasionally play this in my classroom as our welcome song on Friday mornings - and usually get pelted with stuff for it! Kids are such fun!
And just like that, Rebecca Black is back on the front page. When will you people just admit that you find her a guilty pleasure.
:tongueout:
I'll admit that the song is sort of catchy.
The only thing that bothered me about the video is that most of Rebecca Black's friends all have moles on their faces in roughly the same locations.
When I first saw the video I literally couldn't stop focusing on the moles.
MOLEY MOLEY MOLEY!!!

Well, it's now official - Rebecca Black is an American icon. She was spoofed in JibJab.com's year in review song, "2011 Buh-Bye!"
My goal is to be in one of their year end songs someday.
I love it whenever this threads bounces back up to the top. REBECCA BLACK WINS AGAIN!
Ya know, with Bachman and Santorum peeling off Romney supporters, Perry unable to utter a complete sentence, and Gingrich losing the Christian Coalition support, and Ron Paul repelling those who oppose isolationism, it is ENTIRELY POSSIBLE that Rebecca Black could win Iowa and get the GOP nomination!!!!!! :buggedout: :buggedout: :buggedout: :buggedout: :buggedout: :buggedout:

.........this has to be a joke.
OK, so my comments on her winning the GOP nomination were a little off.
I do hear that she is on the short list to be Mitt Romney's running mate, though.

The question is this though. She is more qualified than Sarah Palin was for McCain?

It ain't MY fail, friend. I'm not the one that keeps bringing the Rebecca Black thread back to the front page, I just make fun of the situation every time it does. I think it's perfectly fine to make fun of the badness of Rebecca Black. I just think it's hilarious that people talk about how much they can't stand her yet there is page after page of commentary. It seems to me the members of the board can't get ENOUGH of her.

What's funny is that all this time I have yet to hear the song. My amusement comes from that fact that I don't even HAVE to hear the song to marvel over the fact that there are 9 pages of commentary about it on badmovies.org. That to me is hilarity incarnate.

Also, WHO MADE THIS A STICKY THREAD?!
Oh, the terrible joys of Friday! Rebecca Black, purest priestess of the chillaxing pre-weekend party! Come, bestow upon us the wisdom of the Order of Days, the Making of Breakfast, and Choice of Seats! And we, the Faithful of Nox, will celebrate thy blackest light unto the End of the Week!
Gather we now to muster our voices in the cry of the Friends of Rebecca!
FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN ...
I think I am going to shamelessy copy that!!! :teddyr:
Thanks, indianasmith! :teddyr:
Unlike most others who were prewarned of this song's badness, I inadvertantly came across Friday in one of those 'related videos' lists in YouTube. The thumbnail made it look like another cute teen singer like Selena Gomez or somebody. As the song progressed, I could not quite believe what I was hearing. Surely a professionally produced song couldn't be that bad? And the thousands of comments offering death threats and marriage were equally perplexing. Little did I know I had stumbled across the infamous Rebecca Black.
I find the Bret Baker Slutty Friday song even funnier and more catchy. I find myself singing 'wee wee ... I just went wee wee ... and p**sed my paaaanties to-day' at the oddest times. Everyone in the office has been subjected to Rebecca, and she has given me and my friends (fun fun fun fun) heaps of laughter.
Thanks, Rebecca! Thanks, YouTube!
This cover sounds much better, but it really highlights the inanity of the lyrics. Quite funny actually.

Formal integrity is a problem if the original sucks. She needs to expand her repertoire, try some jazz ballads or feminist punk or something. Surprise me, Rebecca!

Yeah, we had a whole thread on that one a while back. I think this proves it's Patrice Wilson, not Rebecca Black, who was the genius behind "Friday." He's the Ed Wood of tween vanity music videos.

The difference is though, Ed Wood's work is actually tolerable, and entertaining (for the wrong reasons). I think Wilson should give up, these exploitable teen pop songs are getting extremely repetitive imo.
