Sequels that topped the original

I'd like to submit Maniac Cop 2 as a sequel that improves upon the original. Saw it a couple of days ago and it was great (as long as you can live with the fact that Bruce Campbell is killed off early on in the movie).

Another Evil Dead dissident here....I don't HATE the series, but it's not a favorite of mine, and I don't own any copies of any of the films.  Not serious enough in tone for me, other than the first one.
I liked CANNONBALL RUN 2 a little better than CANNONBALL RUN....
Most of the ones I can think of are less sequels than continuations of stories, like GODFATHER PART TWO.
Though EXORCIST II:THE HERETIC of course isn't better than the original, it is one of the worst movies of all time, and that's an achievement.
I don't think DAWN is better than NOTLD, but I do agree that DAWN best represents Romero's work...both the good and the bad of it.  NOTLD is a far scarier film, IMO.
STAR TREK II for sure, but that's not saying much.

Disagree on SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE II...the first was a fairly intelligent film, the second was ridiculous.

Is it possible for a movie called "SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE" to be Intelligent? hehe..

I disagree on T2 and Halloween 2 - personally for me the originals should have been left alone. Tho Halloween 3 should get an award for the worst sequel that had nothing to do with the original. nobody mentioned army of darkness?

SUPERMAN 2 - I just can't help myself..the villians were better
INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE - the second was lame but the third I thought better than the first
DAMIEN: THE OMEN 2 - give it up folks
NATIONAL LAMPOONS CHRISTMAS VACATION

I admit i like CANDYMAN 2 as well. sue me ;-)
One of the Lethal Weapons was better than the first, i just forget..what sequel are they on already?
Exorcist 2 may have sucked but part 3 made up for it - cheesy yet effective. doesn't compare to original tho, not in same leage.

Armor Of God 2: Operation Condor-more action and two of the ladies keep loosing their towels!

My Lucky Stars- Overall just better made then Winners And Sinners(which is a cool movie).

Lethal Weapon 4-Jet Li is an awesome villain and Joe Pesci is still HI-larious.

Seriously, the original SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE was one of the few slasher films where the characters didn't do the stupid things they usually do in those movies.

I'd rather watch EXORCIST II than III.  Not that III was bad, but there were only a few effective scares.

I'm torn about SUPERMAN II.  The first one I consider the best superhero film of all time, but I have to admit SUPERMAN II is more complex in the storyline and character devlopment [as far as Clark and Lois.]  So it's probably a more mature film, but I dunno if it's quite as magical as the first one.

Both HALLOWEEN III and ROTLD III would have been better as stand-alone movies.  I think most people dislike HALLOWEEN III just because it's not a Michael Myers movie.  That scene with the kid "testing" the mask is nuts!

The second was with the South Africans and ended with the fight on the ship

The third had them going after an evil land developer. This was the one where Riggs met Lorna the policewoman.

The fourth was where they were up against asian bad guys.
