If you want to view paradise . . . simply look around and view it!

"Basie on the Beatles" by Count Basie & His Orchestra - desperate move by an over-the-hill Basie; most of the arrangements are the worst kind of elevator music, but the uptempo take on "Norwegian Wood" is actually a swinging classic

"Taking the Soul for a Walk" by The Dafnis Prieto Sextet - all original compositions, may well be my favorite new jazz album from 2008

I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

Listened to it again and I have to say that "Come Together" was pretty good as well.  That makes two little golden nuggets in a sea of crap.  I hate albums like that.

"UHF" by Acme Rocket Quartet

Sort of cocktail lounge jazz with a touch of Ennio Morricone; I love it.  From the AMG review: "Gritty, spare, and marked with B-movie sound bites, UHF is a flowing, stylized album of nostalgia and experimentation. It begs to be listened to throughout, offering clever commentary on possible new soundtracks for those quirky flicks that used to fill the late, late night hours on the UHF channels."
