Hey DS, tell your wife that by the time it gets to you, it should not be much of a concern.  Right after it passes us, it SHOULD weaken pretty quickly.  We 'boat people' watch these things pretty closely.

We are just inland of the Outer Banks and are starting to see some water come in, and a touch of wind starting. Should be romping pretty good here around 7 pm - 3 am or so.  We are well within the TS circle and are expecting winds 35 kt and 45 gusts.

Really, not much more than the Nor-Easters we deal with all winter long (and they can last days, not hours).

It does look to only deliver a glancing blow to you.  Still, best of luck with avoiding any storm damage.  We're near the coast of Delaware, but largely protected by New Jersey (boy, is that something funny to say).

Venom, Darksider, Skull, Andrew and anyone else in Earl's path....I hope it turns out LESS than expected for you as it seems to be for us.

Right now, we were "supposed" to be 4-5 hours into 35 knot sustained winds; we've had a few gusts around 23 or so.  Predictions for here were half an inch of rain per hour starting this afternoon; it only started consistently drizzling within about the last hour or so.

We still may get some heavy wx over the next few hours, but so far, thank goodness, it's been LESS than we were expecting.

I live in Jersey, in Monmouth County, and will once again be taking the brunt for Delaware!!

Sorry...at the risk of being pedantic, but that's not 'landfall' on NJ.  A 'cane makes landfall where the eye hits land.  In that picture, NJ is in the rain bands and technically (at least in the terminology the NHC uses) the hurricane is still offshore.

There's only about a 10% chance of Massachusetts getting hurricane force winds this evening, and Nova Scotia is in the 5-10%  probability also.  Nowhere else on land will see hurricane force winds.



Anyway, all you guys up North remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Enjoy what a friend of mine, a 'surf dude' that also lives aboard a boat, calls "the FUN side of a hurricane."  (Yes, one  could say he's a little off his nut...but if you have to be in one, the western semicircle is MUCH better than the eastern one).

Well, a tree fell in our backyard and our powers out till tomorrow. This sucks
