Well, like the thread asks, which of these do you prefer?

Skull

Friday the 13th (2009) isnt a remake... :)

I prefer the originals in all those except one, The Thing.

Good topic.

IMO sometimes remakes beat originals, which I think is better...

The Fly 1986, The Thing 1982, The Blob 1988, King Kong 1976, Nightmare On Elm Street 1984... that should have never been remade lol.

It's hard to pick a Dracula and Wolfman movie though. Its a tie I like both originals and remakes.

Also... Clash of the Titans 2010, IMO another movie that should have never been remade.
Dissin Bubo the owl like that, shame on them lol.

I mostly went with originals, except for The Blob.  Didn't think much of the original, but the remake was great fun.  I didn't vote on stuff like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare etc. because I've never seen the remakes.  I've never seen the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but I love the remake with Jessica Beals.  I'm probably one of the few who prefers The Thing From Another World over The Thing.  The Thing was good, but it just doesn't impress me as much as it does most people.

In almost every case listed, I prefer the originals. The only two remakes out of the ones you listed I liked a bit better were the remakes of The Fly (1986) and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) but I still like the originals in both cases quite a bit too. It is interesting to note that the best remakes seem to be significantly different in some areas from their predeccesors.

Invaders From Mars (1953) I also consider superior to its remake.

I haven't seen many of the remakes, by design.  Surprisingly, of the three pairs I've seen I do prefer two of the remakes to the originals: THE BLOB (1988) and DRACULA (1992) (I also prefer the Spanish DRACULA to Browning's DRACULA---there's nothing I like about that stagey, boring film except Lugosi's performance).

I think Whale's FRANKENSTEIN blows the remake out of the water, even though the remake is truer to the book.

I'm not interested in seeing a KING KONG remake because I don't think the original could be surpassed or even equaled.

Though I haven't seen the original, I suspect I would prefer Cronenberg's THE FLY to the Vincent Price version.

You can't beat the suspenseful movie called Psycho! :teddyr:

Actually, the 2005 version is a good tribute to the 1933 version, though CGI, it's more on emotion of KONG, when in the original, you don't know what KONG is thinking or feeling.
yeah no.

I knew what Kong was thinking and feeling.  I could tell from his actions, grabbing Fay Wray and holding her protectively while he climbed the Empire State Building.  Don't need no stinking CGI facial expressions.

But still, the remake DID have the cockroach scene. :teddyr:

I like the 1930's King Kong and I love how Peter Jackson remade the movie (It's an acceptable remake) so I'd voted for both... I didnt like the King Kong verson in the 1970's becaues it was asking to be outdated once disco got out of style.

Jack

I didn't care for the recent King Kong remake.  It would go along okay for about 5 minutes, but then something totally unbelievable would happen (thanks to CGI) and it would take me right out of the movie.  And that whole thing with Naomi Watts actually being in love with Kong and willing to sacrifice her life for him?  What the...can you say psycho?

I hated the 2005 king Kong. Even if they shaved off an hour it would still be a steaming pile of crap.

What makes me a bit happy lately is that many crappy remakes eventually seem to get forgotten nowadays and people once again come to think of the original version first when thinking of said film. The remakes of Planet of the Apes, War of the Worlds and The Time Machine (and no doubt The Day the Earth Stood Still and Black Christmas from all I've heard about them) pale greatly next to the originals and truth be told, sometimes I even tend to forget they even exist.

One case of a remake actually being arguably better than the original more recently is Prom Night although I still have more fondness for the original just because it has Jamie Lee Curtis and Leslie Neilsen. I've also heard good stuff about the remake of Dawn of the Dead.

i also prefer most of the originals listed, with a few exceptions like the blob and the fly. i just saw the prom night remake and it SUCKED! whoever thought to make it into a pg-13 movie should be shot.
