Good werewolf movies in the past 20 years.

I was thinking about something.  It's quite clear that very few good werewolf movies have come out recently.  There were two real good ones in 1981, and several others in the 80s, but once you get to the 90s, they're all pretty crap.  Especially in the last 10 years.

So, are there any good ones I'm just not aware of?  Relatively recent werewolf films I HAVE liked: Dog Soldiers, Ginger Snaps, Wolf, Big Bad Wolf, Cursed (well, it was mediocre), and Full Eclipse.  The Wolfman remake and the Underworld movies are just alright, as far as I'm concerned.  There are quite a few others that are REALLY AWFUL.  Is that really about right, or am I missing some?  And what's the deal with that?  There's certainly been a number of good vampire films fairly in the same timeframe.

Why no love for ol' wolfie?

I'd highly recommend Wolf Girl (2001) aka Blood Moon. It puts a new twist on the old werewolf myth. Kind of works like Ginger Snaps in some ways.

I actually own that one on vhs but haven't gotten around to it yet.  Now I will.

In the 90's there was a tv series called She Wolf of London which I think ran on the Sc-Fi channel. The FX and transformations were sometimes pretty...goofy...but it had some cool ideas and decent acting.

Yeah, I own and enjoy Brotherhood of the Wolf - but I don't know why it always gets called a werewolf movie.  I thought An American Werewolf in Paris was pretty bad though.

As for Shewolf of London - sounds interesting, kind of reminiscent of Werewolf from the 1980s.  Both are hard to find, unfortunately.

I thought the Wolfman remake was pretty awesome.

Actually there are a ton of good werewolf movies made before American Werewolf, although American Werewolf has taken the werewolf movies into the next level of "gore" and it seemed most like that idea then the old typical frame-per-frame shot of makeup on Lon Chaney...

But the transformation of werewolves in the 1980's seemed extremly agonizing and time consuming.

American Werewolf in London is really good... :)

I also like The Company of Wolves although I still have a hardtime understainding it but I love the camera work.

Frightnight does has a werewolf transformation which makes more sense then most werewolf transformations (ok the guy isnt a werewolf)

I do like the The Howling and the series for being a bad movie.

Dog Soldiers is ok.

I was dissapointed with American Werewolf in Paris; I thought it could be much better or not called American Werewolf in Paris.

Yeah, that was why I asked for more recent ones - there isn't a shortage of classic werewolf films.  The original Wolfman is my favorite of the older ones I've seen (it's also possibly my favorite werewolf film overall, up with the Howling), but there are still a good number I haven't gotten to yet.  Probably the biggest classic one I still need to see is Curse of the Werewolf with Oliver Reed.  It's in my netflix queue.

Conceptually I tend to like newer werewolf films better though - the traditional rules established by the Wolfman (much like Dracula, it created basically all the werewolf rules and the modern conception of what a werewolf is) do get a little old at times, as except for the pentagram bit practically all the old films follow them almost exactly.  I like the werewolves that have some control of themselves and can change partly at will, at least once in a while.

sequels may be bad but the original is excellent IMO. I prefer it slightly to American Werewolf In London.  same special FX team did both films.
