BURIAL GROUND: I finally saw it

And I have lived to tell the tale. Quite honestly, I thought BURIAL GROUND was not bad. The best parts were indeed the music, gore effects, and the ridiculous dubbed dialouge. Also, seeing it uncut with the original title THE NIGHTS OF TERROR in 1.85:1 was also a joy. I just bought the DVD on a spur of the moment theme and was not disappointed. By all means, BURIAL GROUND is not a masterpiece or an Academy Award winner, but Andrea Binachi just went all out with the flick to make it fun for the audience.

The DVD release of Shriek Show is quite good and I do look forward to their upcoming release of Lucio Fulci's HOUSE OF CLCOKS.

I was knocked on my ass by the sheer awesomeness of this movie.

As well as the MILF goodness of raven-haired beauty Mariangela Giordano (who played the kid's mother.) That scene where she got up fully nude in the beginning, woo-hoo!

She also took it all off for Jess Fanco's Killer Barby's in her mid 50's, and still managed to raise a few flagpoles  :bouncegiggle:

I too have the Shriek Show DVD,for about the last 7 or 8 years now and was totally blown away my the quality. The VHS was horrible, and with the release of the georgeous DVD, I can now officially forgive Shriek Show for their original VHS goof.

The part where the one zombie throws a big nail into the maid's hand just kills me.  And then they cut off her head, because she was too stupid to pull her head back into the house, instead just leaning out the window waiting for them to hoist the weapon up.

Hilarious film.

I remember a reviewer on one website (not sure which) pointed out what he called the "porno dubbing" in the film.  That is, in many parts the dubbing is so bad and lines so ambiguous that if you were to crank up the volume and leave the room you'd swear you were watching a porno film rather than a horror movie.

Consider for instance, the bear trap scene:

"Oh, God!"  "Pull it!  Pull it!"  "OH, OH!" etc.

For that matter, what the hell is a bear trap doing in the front lawn to begin with?

The cast in general has several Too Stupid To Live moments, but I think the one that tops it all is this bit of dialog.

"Hey, let's let them inside, maybe it's something in the house they want, not us!"

Yeah, brilliant idea, Holmes.

And I'm surprised no one mentioned midget boy yet...

And you're also forgetting the winner of all time for dubbed language...

Think back to when the guy stops the zombie form pulling the blonde girl's hair, she asks "what is it"?

And here's the prize-winning response from her boyfriend:

"whatever it is, it's not human, it's a walking corpse!"    DING!!!

And yes, the midget, his English name is Peter Bark. Not sure of his Italian name, but according to the subtitled interview with director Andrea Bianchi, he had (or still has) a serious heroin problem.  Sad stuff, that is  :bluesad:

Oooooo yeah....it's a real masterpiece alright.   :bouncegiggle:

Word also has it (from the subtitled interview with director Andrea Bainchi on the DVD) that Lucio Fulci was once directing it!  Something happened to cause him to change horses in the middle of the stream, and Bianchi wound up with it.

And I think (though I might be wrong) that that certain something just might have been Zombie 2. The time frame of Zombie 2 is about right.

Always loved this film. There's just something so oddly watchable with it.

I like this Zombie film more than any Italian zombie movie (yes-even more than Fulci's stuff-which is kinda hit and miss for me-Hit-ZOMBI. Miss-SEVEN DOORS OF DEATH). Its just so much fun! Micheal.....oh lordy...and the muck faced zombies look really long dead. Like road kill thats been baking in the road for weeks untill it gets all hard and leathery. And then you tip it over with the end of yer boot or a stick...and the bottom-which isnt expoused to direct sun-is swarming with plump maggots...you can actually see the flesh ripple in slow motion waves. A Classick!!!

Something that I've noticed....the castle interior appears to be the same one in the 1965 movie Nightmare Castle.  The outside shots also look like the place as well.

But what really gives it away is the interior shots of certain areas.  Both films were made in Italy, so it's very possible. Watch both movies back to back and take notice.

Yer right! Watch the DEVIL'S NIGHTMARE-same place. Kinda of an Italian Bronsan Canyon,

Yer right! Watch the DEVIL'S NIGHTMARE-same place. Kinda of an Italian Bronsan Canyon,

Yeah man, I mean, they have to be the same place:

Look at the one short set of steps they travel up in the house, and in the bedroom scene in the beginning of BG,  where Michael's mom is showing her MILF goodness-in that scene:  the metal-relief frescos that line the edge of the cieling are the same as in the one room in Nightmare Castle.

The hallway in the film's beginning as they go into the house also, that's where Nightmare Castle had it's ending scenes.

Then there's the outside scene where the doctor is travelling to the Etruscan ruins--the bars on the windows of the house.

Males me wonder if any of those actors were aware that Barbara Steele did one of her movies there?
