Hi Everyone

As many of you know, I"ve been having ongoing sagas with Sean the love of my life.  He was supposed to come over yesterday but fell ill (dizziness, fever, coughing etc) so he stayed home.  Now he's supposed to be here today but his car broke down and he's waiting for the battery replacement guys to come but because it's Sunday they only have a few men on the ground and it's taking time.  And that's just assuming it is only the battery which we don't know about yet.  There's no guarantee I'll even see him this weekend.

So, I've been coming worse than last in his life and I've been weepy and depressed lately.  Added to that, ongoing work sagas and I've been a total wreck.  I've developed a whiney quality about me lately that I've hated.  I knew something had to be done but I wasn't sure what.  I chatted to Sean just now on MSN and he said I need to have more in my life than work and him.

I've been trying not to take that as a "slap in the face" comment because I know he doesn't mean it like that.  I guess I'm just tired of being whiney and weepy and feeling like my life is in a hole and that nobody loves me.

So, I went online and enrolled in a distance education course. We have fantastic online university courses in this country so I signed up for a  Certificate in Sociology.  I feel so great about doing that.  I'm very excited and I feel like I have some meaning and direction to my life - finally.  The course starts on May 30 and goes until August.  I also signed up for govt fee help and when I get my invoice in June I'll just pay it off in full because I'll have time to set aside the funds between then and now.

Anyway, I just wanted to shout my good news to the world that Proactive Girl is back on track and everything is right with the world again.  I've finally joined the ranks of bludging Uni students  :teddyr:

Thanks for reading if you've gotten this far.

Yeah, you'll probably feel better when taking courses!
I love Sociology, it's a great discipline! Don't take this the wrong way, but if you get the chance you may want to take a few marketing research electives, because one of the many places Soc majors may find work is in marketing research and it helps to have some classes in it, both things deal with very similar aspects. But of of course marketing research the focus is profitability for the firm, which isn't always the case in Sociology-- mostly it's how do we understand these social-phenomena and are they problematic?
And if you find you don't like market research there's always government and non-profits or social-work-- you can take a few courses in social work too.

Good luck, and I hope you'll enjoy what you will be doing.

Thanks Nukie.

I'm confident I'll just love this course.  I'm a very fortunate individual.  I live in a wonderful country and I have so many options, it's easy to forget just how lucky I really am.  I've been feeling like I need to give back to society in some way so I thought sociology would be a good start.

And the government pays well, they have other great beenfits too.  And who knows where it all will lead?

I agree with Nukie, you will feel a lot better once you're taking classes.  I'm a first year Psychology student, and during the February break last week, I started getting really depressed because I really just didn't have much to do.  Great choice with Sociology, by the way.  I've read a friend's sociology textbook and I find it really interesting.  I'm hoping you love it!

Good luck with the course!  Keep us posted as to how things go!

My best friend just finished his Sociology Degree, and is now working on a Master's in Counseling and Guidance.  I hope it works out for you!

Thanks guys.  I've never been one to suffer from boredom, probably because I've never really been bored before.  So all this emotional turmoil has come as a really big surprise.

I'm glad I finally have something worthwhile to occupy my time now.

Congratulations, KB! I'm very happy for you! Online classes, eh? Just don't try the online toga parties. Surfing the internet wearing a bedsheet is just sad.  :tongueout:
