^ I honestly don't think most bugs know the difference between being alive and dead.  I mean, really, their brains are like a few hundred molecules.

They don't even have a brain as we would understand it. They have a collection of ganglia with very specialized functions, strung together in pairs like a little rope ladder. It's a very rudimentary nervous system that does what it needs to do and nothing more. Arthropods took a totally different evolutionary path hundreds of millions of years ago, but people will still assume they think and feel like mammals. I have thrown lobsters into boiling water, and they didn't react at all. Not so much as a twitch.

I had an opposite reaction.  However, I think prodding it as it was my first time may have aided in reaction.  On that note, it was interesting to read about their nervous system.  I had known that while having similar systems, there were different ways that they worked.  I think breathing is different for most insects then in mammals as well.

People who push their straight edge, vegan, religous views, etc. upon you and tell you that they're better then you and are an idoit if you don't agree with them, when those people are hypocrites. --- I know people like this, friends but man it drives me up a wall

I don't agree with pushing a personal lifestyle choice on others. After all, it is just that, a individual choice or it should be at least IMO. That said, I do like people to accept my choice. With regards to not killing/eating animals or insects, technically aren't plants also a form of life? So technically isn't eating them if one wants to harm no life kind of against one's beliefs as well? Of course people have to eat to survive. I'm not yet a vegan or vegetarian although I respect that choice if someone should make it but some people do seem to carry it to ridiculous extremes. Technically to avoid all additives and chemical spraying, one would have to go almost completely organic. Actually growing one own vegetables is usually the best you'll have and same with meat, freshest is usually the best and best for you too.

Spelling and grammar mess ups like that are epic and I understand where it would cause people to bang their head against the wall. 

However, as pointed out in the "anger venting thread" I can't stand spell checkers who peruse status updates for a place to shoe in their unneeded spell checks if one word is off.  I could seriously punch those folks in the face.  They're usually the biggest morons pointing out spelling errors too.  I know one of them on my friend's list who does it didn't break a "C" in grade school.

The idea is to minimize pain/suffering, not to totally harm no life (generally speaking, people don't think plants are capable of suffering...  I'm inclined to agree).  It's probably also worth mentioning that millions of mice, snakes, bugs, etc are killed in the harvesting of crops today - but, of course, if you eat meat generally speaking it was fed with harvested crops, which is less efficient than directly eating the crops. 

Not harming life is literally impossible, since your immune system kills bacteria by the millions daily.  There is a group whose name escapes me who only eat the fruit of plants, etc, they make sure not to destroy seeds and wear masks so they don't inhale flies or gnats.  That's about the closest you're gonna find to harming no life.

My understanding is this is the whistle sound you get from steam escaping their body while they cook, as they are not capable of making such sounds.

Whether lobsters or most other arthropods feel pain as we know it is unlikely.  Even if they were capable of such things, it would probably not be at all similar to how vertebrae or even mollusks experience such sensations.  Interpreting how they might feel is like trying to understand how an alien would feel.

I got a email from the library that a CD I borrewed over a month ago is due back in 2 days. I returned it over a month ago. They will either charge me a late fee or make me purchase it because their incompetent staff screwed up. Right now my plan is to go there Monday and give them an ear full.

Not sure if this has come up, but...people who misuse the word "literally." 

Example: "Aw man, when that guy did that thing in that movie, I literally died laughing." No. No you did not. Unless this is a ghost or something saying this, they are either ignorant about how to use a well-known word or they're a liar.
