I was going to buy the Blu Ray versions as I don't own this classic series. Oh well, guess I'll just acqures the normal version of each DVD.

See, that there is my predicament. I want to buy the original trilogy, but I'd prefer to get the cut (or as close as possible) I saw when I was a kid. I'm finally able to afford a box set of the first three, but what I'm buying may not be what I want.

Consider that if you have not seen the movies for a long time, you might not remember exactly what they were like when you were a kid.  A slightly updated version might pass, for all intents and purposes.  But this 'Nooooooooo' cr@p has got to stop.

I personally will eventaully be getting the original triology DVD version that was released prior to Hayden Chrsitainsen being a ghost at the end up Return of the Jedi, can't remember when that was released.

The original cuts were released on the "limited edition" sets. The original cuts are just laser disc rips so they aren't of the greatest quality but that's the best transfer available so far.

Just wait until he releases them to theaters again . . . in 3-D.

I don't think I mind Lucas releasing a modified version of his movies as much as I get annoyed that he keeps doing it again and again. I had no problem with the remastered version released to theatres in the 90s, that had a few changes and enhancements. But how many cuts have there been since then, and how much has the story been altered, and how many of the changes have been dumb and unnecessary?

Not sure, too much, and all of them.

Iv'e said this before, but the only really well done special edition is Empire Strikes Back. The stuff it changes isn't dumb, nor does it change the story. New Hope and Return of the Jedi on the other hand....

I did like the stuff he did with the wampa and cloud city. The Han stepping on Jabba's tail thing kind of blew, but I can live with it.
