So let's have your Top 5 Grindhouse movies. Do your best to refrain from "homage" grindhouse fair like Planet Terror or Hobo With a Shotgun. I would prefer the real thing, please.

There really are no wrong answers with Grindhouse.

Night of the Living Dead (1968): The late 60's was when grindhouse really got started, and I will always respect this title as being one of the forefathers.

Coffy (1973): I feel the need to include a blacksploitation entry, and this title is the undisputed champ in my opinion. Back in the days when black women weren't afraid to wear their hair au naturale.

Master of the Flying Guillotine (1976): Of course I need to include a martial arts entry. I was absolutely fascinated with this movie as a kid. I must have seen in around 1978 or so on tv. Mainstream movies in the 70's would usually take 4 years or more to make it to tv broadcast, but grindhouse fare would get there far quicker.

Suspiria (1977): European horror had a pretty good presence at the grindhouses of the 70's. In that respect, I feel inclined to include this title. However, for this sub-genre, I can't escape feeling bad for leaving out so many great Hammer titles from the same period.

Rolling Thunder (1977): One of the greatest for over-the-top violence. It's like Taxi Driver on steroids. This film belongs here because of how well it embodies the ultra violence of grindhouse.

I have to say, it was extremely difficult picking 5. I decided to go with those films that carry a "good" element to them, but a part of me wanted to include the absolute trash grindhouse that I also love.

See? There's a couple of these titles I've seen that I really like and deserve being in a top 5 just as much as mine. Good entries.

I LOVE this movie.  Saw it at the drive-in (it was the companion feature to the original MAD MAX!)  I got my hands on a beautiful quality widescreen DVD-R within the past year.  Pure heaven.

Trip With The Teacher (AKA "Deadly Field Trip")
Last House On The Left
New York Ripper
Cop Killers
The Mutilator

I'm not sure exactly where the line between Grindhouse/Slasher/Giallo or even just plain 'not Grindhouse enough' can be drawn sometimes, so that's a rough list. but on the right kind of lines

Rev. Powell

The category's too wide for me to decide.  I'm going to limit it to my favorite grindhouse films that begin with the letter "B":

Bad Girls Go to Hell (1965)
Basket Case (1982)
Blood Feast (1963)
Blood Freak (1972)
The Big Bird Cage (1972)
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...

Basket Case (1982)

I saw BASKET CASE in the theater.  At the box office, they handed out surgical masks with "Basket Case" printed across the front of them.
