According to breaking-news reports this morning from Rolling Stone and TMZ, Adam "MCA" Yauch, co-founder of Grammy-winners and recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees the Beastie Boys, has died at age 47. Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. As of this writing, it is unclear if his death is related to the cancer he was treated for in 2009...

very sad. The Beastie Boys were / are amazing. Check Your Head was such a huge record.

Was gonna post a thread, but couldn't as I was at work.

Such sad news.  I literally GREW UP listening to the Boys, and some of the best times of the first 28 years of my life were with them as a soundtrack in the background. :bluesad:

:bluesad: I grew up listening to the Beastie Boys too. I played and replayed "Licensed To Ill" and "Paul's Boutique" and also very much enjoyed their later stuff and fun music videos. R.I.P. "MCA"

I learned about this from the radio while at work. The rest of the day felt somewhat bleak. :bluesad:

Although he couldn't be there or perform, at least he got a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.

They had a tribute on the radio earlier, and one now.

MCA was always my favorite Beastie Boy.

It's always sad when somebody dies young, and 47 is young.
Every dead body that is not exterminated becomes one of them. It gets up and kills. The people it kills, get up and kill.

I never cared for the Beastie Boys--OK, I pretty much can't stand theml--but it just occurred to me that Yauch also founded the independent film distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories. They distribute a lot of documentaries but some of you may have seen RARE EXPORTS or WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN. So, I do have a fondness for the guy after all.
I'll take you places the hand of man has not yet set foot...
