I was watching rise and fall of WCW last night... I had no idea they were killin WWE so badly.

I used to switch between the channels - RAW / NITRO then back again lol (yup, good old days)

well with that said - Imo Vince Russo and Nash trashed the place.

Russo, and Ed Ferrara actually increased ratings and created some stars.

But when they started a 'writing committee' and Arquette and Russo won the belt...nail in the coffin.

Nash killed it.

Goldberg had that run, won the belt. If they were smart, they could've had that match between Hogan and Goldberg on ppv, and made millions instead of on free tv.

Then Hogan allows Nash to win the belt in exchange for Nash losing it to Hogan and reforming nWo.

But you're right... in the end - Nash killed it.

Guys like Nash and Hogan running the place and not allowing anyone to really go over them aside from a rare few they knew wouldn't get over in the end - that was the death of WCW, that and not allowing any new stars to grow aside from Goldberg who was kind of an unexpected fluke. At that point in his career, Hogan should have been jobbing to a whole bunch of guys to help build new stars. They really missed an opportunity with Bret Hart whom they could have called their "real world champion" ala Flair years before. But those established stars needed to be putting over some of the younger talent to give them the rub they needed to reach the next level. Instead we just got beatdowns and domination by Hogan et al week after week. If they'd actually lost a few matches here and there to guys aside from Flair and Luger and to some of the younger guys working their butts off in great matches week after week like Jericho and Eddie Guerrero, it could have probably had many more years than it did.

In Russo's defense, I do have to say that WCW was a mess way way before he even got there.

It's been stated before that the people running WCW had no foresight to how to properly produce a show.  They'd be going on the air live at 8:00, and by 7:45 all that was known was the first match of the show at 8:05.  This is a company that once paid to fly 80 wrestlers to an arena in Denver, only to utilize about 20 of them.  They then sent the other guys a paycheck for literally $0.00.

They were smart enough to hire guys like Jericho, Benoit, Malenko and Guerrero, but a full YEAR after they had their shot here in ECW.  But then never gave them any real storylines or chance to expand beyond mid-card status.  The first three months Russo ran the company, he immediately utilized Bret Hart, Eddie Guerrero, Shane Douglas, Rey Mysterio, Norman Smiley, Vampiro, Mike Awesome and a few other younger guys like Kidman who never had that chance.  And, ratings went up.  But, people in Turner's camp wanted the ratings to jump from 1.8 to what the WWF had, a 6.2.  It needs to build.  So he was ousted in favor of Nash.  Who immediately discontinued any story ideas and spotlighted DDP, Nash, Steiner, Flair, Bagwell and Sting.
