Redefining levels of badness

A couple of months back, I saw The Creeping Terror for the first time in my life...

Now, as a member of this forum, I'm no stranger to the glorification of ineptly made stinkers, but the ineptitude on this one left me awestruck, and I've sat through a few Polonia Brothers films...
Ever since, I've been trying to figure out how I could sum this up.

Then, last week, I remembered this theatrical slide show we made in the 4th grade, & it hit me, "Yeah, it's kinda like that: A fourth grade drama project!"

This lead me to wonder how how this analogy could be used on other films...
For instance, the works of The Polonia Brothers could sorta be summed up to a high school movie project, sorta like this long awaited annual mash-up twixt Art Class, Photography class, and the Theatre & Videography clubs...

It seems like a lot of what I see, is like, the clean stuff being in the league of a film school senior project, & the dirty stuff seeming like a first job outa film school kinda thing...

On the other hand, the works of Larry Buchanan might be best described as Grandpa's first video camera at the Halloween pageant sorta vibe... I dunno.

What are some of your thoughts on how one could equate certain levels of inexperience or education to the quality of a movie?

Yeah, Creeping Terror is an unbelievable chore to sit through.  Even with MST3K, it can be brutal.  The incompetency with this film is obvious on so many levels.. the most amusing for me is that they lost the audio somehow, and the lost voices to the actors in much of the film had to have narrative played over to disguise this.

The special effects are another serious detriment.. a monster that looks like a carpet with a chocolate chip body and gummy worms in its mouth??  Are you kidding me??  And it moves so slow people have to fall over/walk really slow to allow it to come even close.

And the acting/facial expressions.. whew, don't get me started!

People usually cite Plan 9 or Manos as the worst film ever but I still think Creeping Terror is at least as bad.

I actually thought The Creeping Terror was kinda cute in that regard...

I was just sorta thinking when certain levels of experience (or lack there of) are apparent.

For instance, Manos The Hands Of Fate has this whole "done on a poorly thought out bet" vibe written all over it.

Birdemic is kind of like:

Dad:  "Sorry everybody, I can't film the family reunion.  That damned kid of mine took the video camera again."

And yeah, a lot of movies are like "I moved to LA in hopes of becoming a star...that didn't work out but hey, at least I'm not doing porn."

Or the old "I've always dreamed of going to film school but since I'm not really that ambitious, I got some friends together and we made this."
The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion.

Hip Hop Locos, it's like "let's make a dope movie and shoot it on my new cell phone (the year is 2001, no HD). It's gonna be totally gangsta, and we are going to be crazy badass muthafuggers killing people".
It doesn't get any lower than that.

THE CREEPING TERROR : Lost Soundtrack-hired local sports announcer-had a thing for flailing gams.

DINOSARUS! : Tried to make a KONG level monster pic.-failed, but in a nice way.-would have been the same in B&W.

The Creeping Terror does not hurt me like it does other people. I find it to be just a bad movie, rather than something horrible.

The films that cause me pain are usually attempts to be really edgy or artsy, such as Candy.  That an completely amateur productions, with Zombie Night and Weasels Rip My Flesh coming to mind.

Ya know, there is a certain ephemeral quality to seeing a film that tries so hard to please, yet fails...kinda like the difference in picking up a puppy that innocently pees on you, versus one that rips into your thumb with those needle sharp teeth.

This is a recent development but I absolutely detest bad movies that have a large following composed mainly of people that have never actually watched the thing.

Also:
Alien invasion movies with no aliens. I'm looking at you, They.

I went looking for a scene that I thought I remembered from THE CREEPING TERROR where a leggy girl is swallowed by the CREEPING TERROR, y'know, with the kicky leg...?

Hmmm... Kinda looks like a clip from the trailer for The Creep Behind The Camera...

Sometimes when watching The Return Of Captain Invincible, I get the feeling that the director must have really hated Christopher Lee...

But the more I think about it, when I see the inept use of cheesy editing transition effects, the more I get the feeling, that this was one of those projects that the studio threw together for tax reasons (or something), and that the entire cast & crew wanted no part in this picture, but were somehow required under some sort of oppressive contractual obligations they may have had with the studio.

In short, I get this vibe like "a bunch of people who hate each other end up doing something they really hate..."

The Wizard Of Mars seems to me like one of those aforementioned Film School Senior Projects...

It just sorta seems like one big project in green screening, negative mashing, & exercises in super imposing different images, with no real direction to go in. It even looks, at times, like it didn't have the same director, like everyone in the crew got to take turns, or a bunch of different teams were assigned to create a bunch different scenes for one movie, with hopes that the end result would be cohesive, or at least a good grade...
