Okay, this is basically a recommendation thread for lesser known movies (because I know most of you tend to be up on your obscure stuff)

"X" = a movie you enjoy, and which is fairly well known to badmovies lovers

"Y" = a movie which is similar in style, or plot, or theme etc. to X, but is more under the radar, and perhaps not considered widely known.

I'll kick it off with the one that inspired the thread

Trip With The Teacher is probably my all time favourite Grindhouse movie, and has a lot in common with Last House On The Left. i.e. psychotic baddies with no backstory take young girls hostage and a drawn-out struggle between them ensues. 'Teacher' is a nasty, seedy, vile film but it also has a kind of innocent 70s quality to it that I love. There is very little to no gore (iirc), but the tension is well maintained throughout. - although it is a badmovie, make no mistake...I would definitely recommend it to anyone that likes Last House On The Left.

MARK OF THE DEVIL is probably more well known, but FLAVIA: THE HERETIC is a superior movie.  In addition, there is a skin-peeling scene in FLAVIA that puts all of the torture scenes in MARK OF THE DEVIL to shame.

OK then.. this ties in with my Cube post... Any other horror that really doesn;t go crazy with the gore or disturbingness (i.e torture or rape).
My faves are things like: Wicker man (Edward Woodward version,of course), Shadow of the Vampire...
Stuff where story makes up for having legs saawn off.

thanks burgo.  the 'Shameless' release dvd of Flavia The Heretic pops up in my local store every now and then,  always wondered if it's worth watching...if I see it again I'll probably give it a go

Don't Look Now (1973), check out

Ghost (1990).

It appears that the makers of Ghost picked up Ideas from Don't Look Now to create their movie. Not many but still quite a few obvious similarities.
