Guided By Voices - to me Robert Pollard is the Picasso of our time. He's taken the Who and the Beatles and continued it into insane new areas. see "game of pricks"

The Stooges - we've been talking about the bible lately on the book thread. for me, "I wanna be your Dog" is like the crucifixion, "Dirt" is like the resurrection. They are the sound of the ancient world as expressed through primitive rock n roll

Ghost (The Japanese one not the also good Swedish one) - Japan's Ghost take kraut rock, maintain the absurd hippy elements and add great songwriting and amazing Japanese folk stuff.

Mobb Deep - a dark gangsta rap group whose music sounds like what the world feels like: a constant bare knuckle fist fight against reality

Nico - The Marble Index, Desertshore, and The End are the darkest albums ever released. No guitars. John Cale on arrangements

Hildegaard Von Bingen - acapella voices singing the song of dark age life in massive reverb laden churches. She was a nun in like 1200 or something

The Infamous has to be one of the best rap albums of all time, but I think like a lot of 90s hip hop artists they carried on past when they stopped having that same kind of focus and energy. didn't like their later albums much...

Obviously when they started making songs with G Unit and stuff it wasn't the same, but they've got a lot of other good stuff. What I heard of the latest album didn't inspire me to buy it and I have almost everything.

I really like Louis Armstrong too. Honestly I like a lot of 40s-50s music too (some rockabilly, some doo-wop, classic rock 'n' roll, some folk music too), some from films even (I liked Sinatra, Crosby, and Martin too). Still looking at it, the bands I named above are those I do tend to enjoy listening to the most on a personal level.
