DEAD OF NIGHT (or DEATHDREAM 1972) was identified for me by this site a long way back, probably not too long after I joined.   DEATHDREAM is one of my favorite movies.

Actually, I agree somewhat... it has a very slow start. Once it gets moving there is a lot to enjoy.

The beginning of that film, the views of Georgetown, the subtle lulling of the audience, autumn leaves falling, is perhaps my favorite part.  Then it starts and it gets uglier and uglier.  I think the film is still shocking.
