RIP William Hurt.

It has just been announced that the veteran actor has passed at the age of 71. I did not realise he was that old. Rest well.

Good Lord, that was a shock to read that he had passed. 😳

He was always one of my fave actors: his best role was as the tough Russian cop in Gorky Park.

Yeah I just heard of this myself.

William Hurt, who often played a quiet intellectual in his early acting roles, but later took more strident turns in science fiction and Marvel films, has died just a week before his 72nd birthday.

William Hurt's son, Will, posted today that his father has died. It was announced in May 2018 that the elder Hurt had terminal prostate cancer that had spread to the bone.

"It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday. He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time."

He also played Duke Leto Atredies in the 2000 Dune miniseries.  Even though I preferred the Jürgen Prochnow version I still think both Hurt and Issac did decent enough jobs.

The interrogation sequence from Gorky Park (especially at 4:54  ) is one of the scariest sequences in any non horror film I have ever seen. William Hurt is very intense and angry: Joanna Pacula looks as though she is genuinely frightened and disturbed here.
