ER

I may be the only person in the world who thinks so, but these aren't funny at all to me. Didn't watch it but saw one was in the VHS box and remembered how tedious I found the two I saw years ago. I know, I know, I should don sackcloth and liner-note ashes and be forced to go through life wearing a copy of Weekend at Bernie's II around my neck for forty days to atone for my failure to perceive comedy gold right in front of me, but I just don't like those movies!

I liked the first one when it was current. Of course, I was about 13 at the time. I haven't seen it, or any of the sequels, in years, but I remember going to see "3" and/or possibly "4" during their theatrical runs and already thinking that the series had worn out its welcome.

Yeah, they suck.
Amazingly, they made 7 movies, a TV series, and a cartoon!

I think you just had to be there.  Like REVENGE OF THE NERDS - cringey and awkward today, hilarious at the time.

Yeah, they mostly suck, and I thought this even as a kid in the 80s.

Honestly the first one was the least funny/most painfully obnoxious of the lot.

2, 3, and 4 at least benefitted from the mentally challenged pairing of Bobcat Goldthwait and Tim Kazurinski... a comedy team that (from an adult perspective) probably makes Martin and Lewis look erudite and sophisticated. Still, it was some small humor content!

Didn't even bother w/ 5 + 6. No GoldUrinski!

I saw the first one WAY back in my elementary school years. I've wanted to revisit it (the first one at least).

Shout Factory just announced a new set with all 7 films.

But did you see it on ship full of lonely, bored guys in the middle of the Pacific Ocean?
Honestly, we thought flying fish were funny!!

their style of comedy could not be more low brow if it tried, but I find them just about watchable... dare I say I even find part 5 ASSIGNMENT MIAMI BEACH to be 'fun', in a throwaway 80s way.

also I quite like G W Bailey's pantomime villain portrayal of Captain Harris.

edit - just scouring some imdb user reviews of Part 5...

The makers of Police Academy 5 might have made a Police Academy film that is suitable for four-year-olds to watch, but in so doing, they have made a film that only four-year-olds would want to watch.

yeah like I say, somewhat a fan of that one...

Rev. Powell

When I was a teenager, I went to see one of the sequels in the theater with a cousin of mine. I never forgave him.

Unfortunatley I've seen all sequels. My ratings:

1. Police Academy (1984) 4.5 (Excellent)
2. Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment (1985) 2.0 (Fair)
3. Police Academy 3: Back in Training (1986) 1.5 (Barely Sufficient)
4. Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol (1987) 0.0 (Awful)
5. Police Academy 5: Assignment: Miami Beach (1988) 0.0 (Awful)
6. Police Academy 6: City Under Siege (1989) 0.0 (Awful)
7. Police Academy: Mission to Moscow (1994) 0.0 (Awful)
Is it October yet?

Darn, it seems I'm less weird than I hoped, um, I mean thought.

I cannot picture any scenario where people would argue they are comedy masterworks?

Masterpieces?  No...

But I liked them when they came out. Haven't watched or thought about them much since. But its not like I'd hate myself for watching them again.
At least, that's what Gary Busey told me...
