I'm pretty sure it was Shout At The Devil by Motley Crue, on cassette. If memory serves, I bought it at K-Mart.  :teddyr:

I really don't know but I remember once throwing a fit when I was a kid because my mom wouldn't take me to get this Paula Abdul album that for some reason appealed to me, likely because it was the cool thing of the moment and I hadn't yet learned to beware cool new things.
What does not kill me makes me stranger.

#5
Two actually. With my parents' money: Destiny by The Jacksons (1978) and Reggatta de Blanc by The Police (1979).

I never bought albums on cassette. They never appealed to me.
Is it October yet?

With my OWN money, I think the first one I bought was:
GOOFY GOLD
A silly novelty compilation album from 1978.  I bought it around Halloween (a few years after its initial release) so it came with a "Scary Sounds" 2nd album.

Songs included:
CHARLIE BROWN- The Coasters, BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS- Johnny Horton, DOES YOUR CHEWING GUM LOSE ITS FLAVOR- Lonnie Donegan, TRANSFUSION- Nervous Norvus, BIG BAD JOHN- Jimmy Dean, BEEP BEEP- Playmates, RUNNING BEAR- Johnny Preston, HELLO MUDDAH HELLO FADDUH- Allan Sherman, WESTERN MOVIES- Olympics, WOOLY BULLY- Sam The Sham & The Pharoahs, ALLEY OOP- Hollywood Argyles, KING KONG (YOUR SONG)- Bobby "Boris" Pickett & Peter Ferrara, AHAB THE ARAB- Ray Stevens, CHANTILLY LACE- Big Bopper, PEPINO THE ITALIAN MOUSE- Lou Monte, YAKETY YAK- Coasters, TIE ME KANGAROO DOWN SPORT- Rolf Harris, MR. CUSTER- Larry Verne, MONSTER MASH- Bobby "Boris" Pickett, PURPLE PEOPLE EATER- Sheb Wooley
"O the legend they say, on a Valentine's Day, is a curse that'll live on and on.."

I think they stole that title from Wilbur Smith. :teddyr:

I didn't buy any albums until I was in the military.  Mostly, if I wanted to listen to music, I'd just turn on the radio.

I think the first two I ever bought was a recording of Phantom of the Opera, and Weird Al's Running with Scissors.

HappyGilmore

With my own money...I think it was Alapalooza, by Weird Al Yankovic. 1993 or so.

First piece of physical music media owned:
The Cheeps - The Birdie Song, on 7" Vinyl. won at some kids event (party?) I have no recollection of

First album owned (on cassette), bought for me by my mother:
The Beatles White Album

First album purchased with my own money:
NOW! Vol. 10... bought with WHSmiths vouchers (remember those, uk people?)

got it solely because M/A/R/R/S - Pump Up The Volume was on it. still one of my favourite tracks ever.

Guns N Roses Appetite For Destruction.

I remember going in to WHSmiths to buy that, which would've been the 2nd album I ever bought , but they didn't have it. I came out with Def Leppard - Hysteria instead. an album I can still happily listen to (not that I have that tape any more)

my next couple of purchases were Beastie Boys - License To Ill, and Van Halen OU812... after that it's all a blur*

Funnily enough WHSmiths was where I bought it from.
