American soldiers stationed in Germany introduced and made skateboarding popular in Germany in the mid-1970s. The skateboard craze in Germany started around 1976/77 with Germany then producing their own skateboards.

Germans would use the English words "city surfing" for skateboarding.
It wasn't until the 2000s when towns started to create official skateboard parks.
