Movie scores that don't fit the movie?

I've always thought that the jaunty, upbeat score for FORCE 10 FROM NAVARONE doesn't fit the theme of the film which is pretty down beat at times. 😊

the score to THE OMEN 4 is completely incongruous to the franchise let alone the movie itself

short clip, listen to how badly it's whacked over this scene

Taken from a previous thread we did: Ladyhawke (1985)

QuoteThe film soundtrack, composed by Andrew Powell, has met some criticism, with some saying the synthesizer laden track is incongruous for a medieval-themed movie.

Imagine if Schindler's List had a grunge soundtrack. It just doesn't fit.

Nightcrawler has a synthy soundtrack that doesn't really fit the vibe of the film.

Although I've grown into it now, the timpani heavy sections of the Commando soundtrack used to drive me nuts.

I've always disliked anachronistic music, like heavy metal playing in a Medieval movie, for example.
What does not kill me makes me stranger.

that's just reminded me, saw a movie recently that started with a kind of pre-cursor scene taking place in medieval times, and it had frigging emo electro-pop type music going on  ... can't remember the film, it might come to me

- something to do with an Irish demon or curse...

Rev. Powell

I think it was Deathstalker 2 that was set in this medieval fantasy world but had this 80s synth-pop sound I found ridiculous.

INFERNO (1980) has some pretty jarring tracks I'd say. though inferno is a pretty strange movie in general

The Burgomaster

A lot of the low-budget films from the 1960s (especially nudist colony and soft-core sex films) always seemed to have monotonous music that just repeated from opening credits to end credits, like piano music someone found in a public domain music library.

Shoot The Living, Pray For The Dead opens with a jazz number, & the rest is either electric piano or disco...

I was never all that fond of the "saloon piano" solos in Once Upon A Time In The West...

John Williams is one of the greatest when it comes to scoring movies, but I didn't like his music for Spielberg's Hook (1991). It sounded over-the-top cringe/cheesy at times, like music for a TV commercial or something.

Last night I watched Something wild which had a confusing world beat/ reggae score. It's set in NYC and virginia and has nothing to do with reggae or the islands or anything like that. I don't know what the music should have been, but probably not that.

Rev. Powell

THE DOUBLE is a dystopian black comedy based on a Dostoevsky novel. The soundtrack is 50-60s Japanese pop music. It doesn't go together at all BUT it works amazingly.

This is what A.I. told me about the soundtrack:

QuoteDemme's use of music in "Something Wild" mirrors the film's exploration of identity shifts and the breaking down of social barriers.

Love the soundtrack btw
