tbh this trailer seems so far removed from that universe... doesn't give me NAKED GUN vibes at all.

Uh... okay. "Police Squad!" is no masterpiece. The original AIRPLANE and NAKED GUNs are fun movies starring a more or less washed-up whitebread actor known best for playing bland good guys, who found a much more durable legacy being a (very good) onscreen clown. As I have zero interest in ever seeing Liam Neeson play another vengeful dad or cop, Frank Drebbin Jr. seems like as good a career move for him as any. I guess if one has a grudge against Seth MacFarlane or Akiva Schaeffer that would be an issue but I have no such strong feelings. It ain't the 80s anymore and the end of the posted trailer seems like it strikes exactly the right tone for a NAKED GUN movie in 2025: reverent and also irreverent.

Maybe Zucker just can't receive any negative feedback about OJ?

I agree, I enjoyed early FAMILY GUY but eventually it de-evolved into something quite annoying and way too political. TED was a disgrace, I couldn't stand it. Liam Neeson is awesome but I don't think he has the deadpan delivery of Leslie Nielsen which is what made him so funny; this looks more like a lame attempt at doing something more akin to MACHETE, with the over-the-top violence and one liners.

Still, I may watch it just to see good ol' Liam kick some ass, it's been a while.
