When I was in middle school and high school INXS was huge. Their singer apparently got conked on the head at one point and began a slide into depression that ended in suicide. There was a sordid, but unsubstantiated rumor that he had done it via autoerotic asphyxiation.

Also, not as forgotten but remember how ubiquitous Coldplay was in the 2010's? Not just their own music, but other bands and even ads appropriating their style.

The White Stripes haven't released new music since 2007.
System of a Down. Their last album was in 2005.

Lauryn Hill, Nelly Furtado, Macy Gray.

Apparently changing musical tastes is a contributing factor why they haven't done new music in years or decades.

Others like Janelle MonĂ¡e are now focused on acting.

One of my favorite 90s bands. After the success of their first album, they were plagued by bad luck. Album sales were dwindling, no strong hits in the charts. They were dropped by their record company. The lead singer lost his voice for two years. Three members left the band but reunited 20 years later.

They still tour and make albums, though.

Immortalized with one song, the funky disco classic Play That Funky Music from 1976. You most likely heard it.

The band broke up in 1979.

Lauryn Hill and Spin Doctors are good examples of what I mean.

I saw that Dawn from En Vogue was broke the other day. I'm not the biggest r n b fan but they were one of the most overtly talented groups in pop music and had a bunch of hits. That was the album era so they had actual units sold. Someone has a lot of their money.

J Geils have had infighting the guy J Geils doesn't want to tour, the other guys are to the point of suing him so they can do so.

The reason you don't hear about most of those bands anymore is their old as dirt. GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, MARSHALL TUCKER, and most of the others are from the 70's. Most of those guys are likely in their 70's now. Or dead. You don't hear about the Beatles or Elvis anymore, either.
Of course you don't hear about them anymore.

Time frame for this thread should've been 25 years or something. You don't hear about bands anymore that broke up in the 1970s or 1980s. duh.
