Stop gaslighting great movies because of political agendas :bouncegiggle:

Showgirls (1995) - the entire movie was cringy, but I still love it.
Is it October yet?

No gaslighting. 😎

I was born in what was then Rhodesia. That accent of Leo's is from elsewhere, not from present day Zimbabwe.

If you hear me speak you'll think I was from somewhere in England.

Regarding SHOWGIRLS, I am surprised the apartheid censor board didn't get up in arms over it but they were on their way out already.

Top Gun. Every time a pilot introduces themselves by their callsign. That's like someone introducing themselves by their gamer tag.
Hail to thyself
For I am my own master
I am my own god
I require no shepherd
For I am no sheep.

So, Leo was nominated for his role in Blood Diamond multiple times, including an Oscar-nomination. Mostly positive reviews by critics, lots of praise for DiCaprio. You obviously have seen the film. Do you dislike it because of the accent or did you still enjoy it?

The rest of the movie was good, the director Edward Zwick praised the South African crew and said "they will go far in this business". It was just that accent which threw me off as no one, from my era in my birth country at least, speaks the way Leo does.

zombie no.one

not seen any of the TRANSFORMERS movies but I swear I saw a clip from one, and there's a transformer that talks in a yorkshire accent... experienced a very unusual cringe at that.

The only live-action TRANSFORMERS I saw was the first one, but it was wall-to-wall cringe. At the film's nadir, an autobot urinates on John Turturro. I mean it's gasoline but it emerges from the autobot's groin.  :bluesad: Also, nonstop Shia LaBoeuf.

Another South African cringe moment: the plane flyover of the stadium in INVICTUS.

Not sure what the filmmakers were trying to achieve here but in reality, the flyover was planned months in advance, no one in the stadium (least of all Nelson Mandela) was in any danger and the pilot, Laurie Kay didn't just fly over Ellis Park because he felt like supporting the Springboks.

I never saw the ending of this movie as most of the audience I saw it with got up and left at this point.

I should revisit it some day as I assisted on it in pre production. 😊🐢

Per INVICTUS (and others), I don't think Eastwood is super invested in historical accuracy, just a hunch.

Agreed. I assisted in pre production on this and the person I worked with took up three quarters of a two page email to tell me what his job on the film entailed 🙄😄
