5. Splatter University (1984)

Shaun of the Dead I remember some scene where they were throwing dinner plates like weapons at the zombies and sort of like chinese stars to actually kill the zombies. I thought it was kind of a homage to Oddjob from James Bond. I can't think of any name checking off hand with the zombie movies. Shaun of the Dead might be one of the better ones. I hope one day people can ween me back into liking zombie movies again.

that's one of my favourite scenes in any film of this millennium I think. genius!

I'm also not really enthused with newer zombie flicks... can't think of a single one since SOTD that I've enjoyed (not that I've seen many). the late 70s wave really nailed how to do that genre.

This was picked up and distributed by Troma, which explains a lot. Apparently the film was shot in 1981, with additional scenes added in 1982 to make it longer (original duration was 65 minutes).

I remember there being two versions released to VHS, the R-Rated and unrated cut. The unrated included minimal more blood.

I did buy the DVD because it was very cheap but yeah, Splatter University sucks, no matter what format or version you're watching.

GRADUATION DAY is also Troma distributed I think? they do have a few movies on their books that I like... their in-house productions, not so much.


not a movie namecheck, but I saw the new I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER reboot thingy, and 'bloodydisgusting.com' gets a reference... not a website I've ever looked at, but it's really weird hearing movie characters name real sites. it takes me out of the movie a bit.

- weird fact about that movie... the movie its star Caroline Munroe is supposedly the star of, in the film, is called 'Scream', and you also see a poster for a non-existent movie called 'Stab' at some point as well

Soylent Green? Maybe so much of Soylent Green is happening in reality that that is what the name check is really about. Kind of like if you say Frankenstein in a movie or whatever, you aren't really talking about a movie but some concept that is actually happening. I have definitely been questioning the food that I eat lately. Reminds me some of this guy talking about the Bruce Effect. Times like this when I wish I didn't fail that MEPS exam and could have got into the Air Force. I have asthma     I sort of feel like just getting by is not good enough. Especially if Soylent Green is coming! Baton down on my near comotose state and James Cameron documentaries where he claims that the Exodus in the bible was actually the Hyksos shepherd king expulsion. It's like James Cameron, love ya, but stick to the movies!

there is absolutely loads of stuff in the commercial foodchain which should never be within a zillion miles of our digestive systems, I don't think that's even a conspiracy theory at this point... have we gone full Soylent Green? wouldn't actually surprise me... shame I love processed food so much 


steeerrrrrrring it back on topic, there's a movie called SON OF RAMBOW. the plot is 2 kids try to make a movie inspired by FIRST BLOOD.

they definitely watch bits of it on a tv, and their home-recorded VHS copy has FIRST BLOOD scrawled on it... I just can't remember if anyone says the title. I'm leaning towards yes

Man, if Soylent Green is something that is continuously name checked in a movie, that might be something to take more than a casual note of. And perhaps name checked in a Bad movie is more relevant than a good one.

I looked on this fandom thing about Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz and it doesn't really say much. Oh yeah Elton John name checks (sorta) Wizard of Oz, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road." If you want to talk about genius it is that song. Is there any movie that name checks The Carlton? That Alfonso Ribeiro trademark dance from Fresh Prince? I could have sworn that there was. I feel like I am in some kind of false world delusion right now. Not quite that this is a pointless world but almost like Dante's Inferno. And so yeah, I was slightly off with Shaun of the Dead. They throw records at the zombies. Not dinner plates. My guess is that those records were either made at Area 51 or they were lacquered with the same stuff that Donald Trump puts in his hair. Does Ghostbusters II count when that mean obnoxious kid stands in the face of Dan Akroyd and says he wants to hear He-man. Because "you guys are full of crap." He-man aka Masters of the Universe?

I randomly found out the other day there's a 1986 movie called THE PRINCE OF BEL AIR... it only has 10 user reviews despite starring some big names like Kirstie Alley and Robert Vaughn. it seems to have zero connection to the Will Smith show?
